Hello to all..... for those who (semi-) know me around here, I have been discussing the values of online doctorates and which versions to pursue, etc.

Well, I just received the official notice in the mail of my acceptance to the Montana State University doctorate program through the department of graduate education. My degree will be in science and education, more specifically Earth & Environmental Sciences and Secondary education. Which is an further exploration and expansion of my Master's degree from the same university.

The program is mostly online, I do have to fulfill a residency requirement, mainly an on-campus course and the defending the dissertation/research.
A little more specifics was mentioned in a previous thread, http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?t=27012&page=2

The most exciting aspect of the program is that I am on a fellowship program...which means (for those who do not know), all my tuition is paid for 100%, including my room and board, stipend, financial compensation for my wife if she needs to take off work in order to join me in MT for the on-campus requirments (because we have a toddler), my airline flights only, and rental car. I also, if I decide to present any portion of my research at a symposium or confernence - all expenses are paid for.
PLUS........if I decide to add any additional "in-field" courses into my program of study that the university does not offer....(online courses from other colleges, which I can transfer in)....the fellowship will pay all the tuition - as long as the course(s) are approved by my advisor/chair.
The only financial responsibilty I am required to pay is my textbooks, and my dissertation hours...which is a max of 14 sem hours.

    Talk about exciting......
I wanted to share this exciting news with everyone on these boards...because everyone here has been very supportive and kind since my initial DL educational trek beginning back in 2002/3.

    Thanks.

    What an impressive thing. Congratulations.

And a good reminder to people, and there are many of them, who are out there price shopping, that putting time into finding financing and/or fellowships is often well spent. Montana State, based on their catalog prices, is no bargain . . . but Montana State with a generous fellowship is a terrific bargain.

John Bear, who is exploring re-issuing my Finding Money for College book, long out of print, through iUniverse or Lulu. Would anyone here like to help update it, in exchange for cover credit and a share of the profits, if any? (Drop me a note at [email protected])

It is quite interesting and surprising by all means. The actual fellowship grants and financial support is coming from CLTW (Center for Learning & Teaching - West). http://www.cltw.org/project_overview.htm

Which offers fellowships for 5 universities for doctoral students who are researching and studying within the Science and Mathematics Education realm. Montana State University, being the "Lead Institute" for the program and fellowships, and the other universities that are also associated with this are: Colorado State University, Portland State University, University of Montana, & University of Northern Colorado.

    Thanks.

Since you are on fellowship, are you still working full-time?
