A friend of mine was going to DeVry a few years ago and his GI Bill was covering costs. Apparently 3 years into his degree, the VA said there were some issues, that they gave him too much or something, and they stopped paying for the degree. He recently found out about the "Big 3" and how they can transfer in credits. He spoke with DeVry and they said he owes them $5000 before they will allow him access to his transcripts. What can he do? Can he apply for grants or anything to pay for this $5000? I think his credit is shot, so he can't apply for a traditional loan, and he does not have a reliable source of income at this time. Thanks, Eric
Excelsior College now allows one to apply for federal grants: https://www.excelsior.edu/portal/page?_pageid=57,606571&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showpost.php?p=269999&postcount=14 That would help him pay for taking courses from Excelsior College. However, that would not be enough to pay the Devry debt unless he also applied for a federal student loan on top of that.
Update, a close family member has decided to help him pay off the debt to DeVry. I will have him look into grants, etc.
