Santa Barbara City College offers "Medical Insurance Billing". http://online.sbcc.net/

Many institutions have courses on medical informatics, health administration, and the like.

Medical Prep offers twelve computer-based courses in the health occupation fields for individual study. The on line courses include Medical Billing, Medical Transcription and Medical Coding.

It's always a good idea to check the subject index of all courses offered by the 100+ schools accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council. They are all listed on DETC's new, and only somewhat harder to use, site: http://www.detc.org

    And more…

The DETC accredited Professional Career Development Institute has a Diploma Program in Professional Medical Billing.

Regionally accredited Brevard Community College has a Medical Coder/Biller Program leading to an Applied Technology Diploma. A rigorous curriculum, but a big plus is that the credits are transferable to their program leading to an Associates Degree in Medical Assisting.

Regionally accredited Chemeketa Community College also has courses in Health Services Management, including CPT-IV and ICD-9-CM Coding and Reimbursement, but a distance degree or diploma option does not seem to be available. Tuition, however, is extremely reasonable at $39 per credit (plus a $35 fee for each online course).

The advantages of taking these courses at a regionally accredited school are that (more than likely) they will later be accepted as transfer credits into another program leading to an Associates Degree in Medical Assisting or Health Information Technology.

Additionally, you may want to contact the American Health Information Management Association at [ur]http://www.ahima.org/[/url], as they administer the national examination leading to the Accredited Record Technician credential.
