I am interested in Human Resource/Industrial Relations (HR/IR) programs, either full time or online. Is there some sort of ranking or grading of colleges and universities offering such programs? I can find ranking for every other subject except HR/IR. If anyone has a list of good programs in this field, kindly share.

    Thanks
    Sathya

I was in fact trying to search the forum for some information related to HR IR programs. but got this error

"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 35 bytes) in /home/degreeinfo_forums/search.php on line 1033".

    At what level? Bachelor's? Master's?

And what are you looking for in a ranking?

Finally, "either full time or online" covers a lot of ground--too much. How do you intend to study? If a program was available to you online, is that what you would prefer?

I am looking at Masters level programs

Regarding rankings, i would like to know which are the best programs available in terms of quality if education, faculty support, cost etc, just to mention a few.

If available online, i would prefer it.

The Centre for Labour Market Studies of the University of Leicester offers a Master of Science in IR and HR, done completely nonresidentially. You can get more information at their website: http://www.clms.le.ac.uk/ . You can also get more information at the U.S. website: www.clms.edu. (That's the North American repreentative, me. But if you're in Oman, you should expect to enroll with either the main campus, or they will refer you to the appropriate local representative.)

You should also consult Jonnie's DL Page: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Haven/2386/distance.html . You may have to go to individual school sites to see if they offer what you seek. Jonnie's page is a great resource from which you might find many opportunities. But because your requirement is very specific, you'll likely need to do some more research. (Posting on this site will help--others may know of programs you'd be interested in, too.)

    US Based Programs

Am not sure if anyone has taken a look at these programs.

The first one is from UIUC. It is a online Ed.M program. If anobody have any experience with this program, please share.

I also found another program, Ed.M, at NCSU. This is a lot more focused on Training and Development.

There is an MS program at University of Texas at Tyler, delivered through UT Telecampus.

University of Towson also has an online MS program in HRD.

What i found interesting was the fact that, in many universities, graduate programs in HRD are offered as part of their Education school. Is there any particular reason for this?

You appear to be focused on organizational development so you’re going to find a lot of education programs. What is your goal? If you are looking to advance in the field of human resource management or industrial relations as a generalist I would look at the 100+ MBA programs with a HR concentration and think about taking the PHR or SPHR test.

There is really no ranking for HR programs that mean anything. Generally, the PHR or SPHR certification will open more doors for you than a Master's in HR, even if you don't meet the experience requirement and have only passed the exam.

You can find a very good list of HR graduate programs on the SHRM website at : http://www.shrm.org/foundation/directory/search.asp It is broken down by full-time, part-time, and online.
