Aspen's site says, "In most cases materials include required lecture notes ($100.00 per course) and text books (average $100.00 per course). Discounts do not apply to books, materials or other fees."

Books are a customary additional expense, of course, but "required lecture notes" are not. Aspen's obviously still very inexpensive even if it turns out that every course requires these, but IMO they should lay all their cards on the table.

Andrew Jackson University is DETC and had pretty low tuition.

I checked with Aspen and when all is said and done it's nearly $7500. :(

That’s interesting on the Aspen price, as when I did this a couple years ago the whole thing was like $4200 if you paid up front. I bought all the books used on amazon for cheap-e-cheap. I have no idea what ‘lecture notes’ are, didn’t have them when I did my two degree’s there…

But, as President of the Aspen Alumni Association, I have to say that even at $7,500 it is the best deal going, as graduation gets you access to a pretty well placed and active group of alumni!!

I'm an adjunct for AJU and I teach Strategic Planning in the MBA program. I believe that the course is just as rigorous as the strategy course I completed in my AACSB MBA program.

    Just my 2 cents.

Few, if any, of the graduate-level courses have lecture notes and each course requires one or two textbooks. The advertised cost is strictly for tuition which is clearly stated.

7500 isn't bad but, at that point, one many be able to justify another program. Amberton University is 7200, according to geteducated.com, and is regionally accredited. You also would not have to pay upfront for the degree.

I think the $7500k number is more like ~$5500 all in.

That probably sounds more realistic. Like Sentinel said, not all of the graduate level courses have lecture notes. I buy the $160.00 books from abebooks.com for around $30.00! :)

UNISA is no longer accredited by the DETC. They allowed their accreditation to lapse.

The MBA at the DETC accredited California Coast University would cost $8190 in tuition.

By comparison, the AACSB accredited online MBA at the University of South Dakota would total $9,000 in tuition, and the program can be completed in two years.

Try Southwest University. I am not sure what their current tuition rate is. www.southwest.edu

    From their graduate tuition page:

Tuition: $250 per semester hour or $750 per 3 semester hour course.

    12 Courses -- $9,000*

*plus Application, Registration, and Graduation fees.
    See Fee Schedule.

As of about a month back the following MBA related courses require lecture notes. 500, 510, 520, 530, 540, 550, 560, 570 & 580. Depending on your specialization you may or may not need most of these. Mine requires six.

My entire program would be $4500 tuition + $600 in lecture notes + $100 Library Fee + $75 Application Fee + $100 Graduation fee + books. If the books are all new and from their bookstore you're probably talking close to another $1200 (a guess) but I always buy used or International and pay way less. If you had to get lecture notes for every course and purchased all new books I can see the total approaching $7500.

Thanks for the list Ted! It seems that the ACICS schools are not as inexpensive (code for cheap) as one might think.

    Up or Down the Ladder?

It just now, this very moment, occurred to me that perhaps I might be looking at the "educational ladder" in the wrong direction?

I have been for the most part looking to ascend the ladder from one degree level to another (BS to MS to PhD etc.) but it dawned on me that perhaps (for my interests, needs and budget) I look in the other direction - an A.S. (RA ;) ) in business (MANAGEMENT) and leave the loftier (costly) pursuits to those who can afford to attain them?

In fact, I think (for me) this is a light bulb moment and ask your opinion too?

Please be kind (it's Thanksgiving Day) :) - What say ye all?
