From the article, "...Touro University International, the California-based, independently accredited distance education arm of the New York nonprofit college..."

TUI University (formerly Touro University International) is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, 985 Atlantic Avenue, #100, Alameda, CA 94501, 510-748-9001.

I presume the reference to being independently accredited means WASC accreditation in comparison to MSCHE accreditation of its former parent Touro College.

$190 million for a Virtual University? Wow! I wished I opened one, and sell it later for that much money. :D

    TUI University

I just hope they eventually settle on a more imaginative name than "Pa-Tooey" University!

I like it better than touro university international.
At least TUI University sounds more REAL.

I have to wonder what the "U" in TUI stands for...University? Touro University International University???? That is like when people say NIC Card (Network Interface Card Card).

TUI is intended to be the all caps rendition of "tui", which is Latin for your or yours.

When used in a sentence such as the The Hail Mary:

"AVE MARIA, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen."

The intent, as I understand it, is for TUI University to mean literally "YOUR University".

Well, if the "TUI" is defined as a Latin term; which makes sense....otherwise, it sounds odd.

Sure, that's what it means in Latin, but when have they ever actually said that was their intention with the name?

I've heard nothing official about the name, such as a press release. A few students in the Yahoo! Group (monitored but not moderated by the school) reported that they were told about the Latin when they asked about the name. The issue also surfaced in the PhD student discussion group, which I moderate, with similar information returned from inquiries to specific individuals. Moreover, when I asked student services about the new name, I received basically the same story. I re-tell the story because I think it has been corroborated beyond rumor to some degree.

This is no different than how the International School of Information Management changed its name to ISIM University (now Aspen University).

One problem with the name TUI University is that someone else already owns the web address www.tui.edu . :D

I just called them and they said TUI is YOUR in Latin - that was their intention.
