I have seen the MBA program asked about before. I grad. from UNA in 2003 and lived on campus for four years. I can tell you it is a great school with a solid history, the football program is ranked 4th in the nation, and the greek system is one of the few in the US that is growing. They have just added another lion cage that has a waterfall and garden area. In other words, you would be proud to visit if you had the chance.

FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of North Alabama has risen to the level of a top-tier school in “America’s Best Colleges 2008,” U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of the nation’s colleges and universities.

In its current issue, the weekly magazine ranked UNA at No. 56 on its listing of the top Master’s Universities in the South.

“The rankings are a composite of objective information such as graduation rates and average class size, along with the more subjective assessment of a peer group of college officials about a school’s reputation for quality,” said UNA President Dr. William G. Cale. “I believe our academic reputation is becoming more widely known and appreciated as we continue to improve such things as student retention, numbers of full-time faculty and faculty degree level.”

To rank colleges and universities, U.S. News first assigns schools to their peer groups based on basic categories developed in 2006 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. In each category, data on up to 15 indicators of academic quality are gathered from each school and tabulated. Schools are ranked within categories by their total weighted score.

“The rankings are certainly not perfect, and the flaws are widely known and discussed,” Cale noted. “At the same time, I wouldn’t deny that it feels good to be identified as a top-tier master’s level university. UNA was not chasing after this designation; it has followed from the good work that is occurring on our campus.”
