I received a private message asking about the application process for ther MBA I am enrolled in at Blekinge Tekniska Högskola (Blekinge Institute of Technology). http://www.bth.se/mam/internetmba.nsf

Since others may be interested, I thought I would post publically.

As I've posted previously, the MBA program is FREE and in English. One trip to Sweden is required for those in the part-time (two year) program and two trips for the full time program.

So far as I can determine, I am the only American in the program. There is also a Canadian.

Of course, there is no guarantee that the admissions process will be the same for the 2008 entering class. However, for me, the process was thus:

There is an on-line application one completes when available (in December). This just asks basic facts about you and your previous education. If you pass that stage, one is invited to submit proof of previous degrees. They must be certified, meaning that one just goes to a notary who certifies that the copy attached is a true copy of the original.

That's it. No statement or anything else required. I did include a "personnal statement" along with my certified degrees, because I have several other degrees and I am older. I thought I needed to explain why I wanted an MBA. I don't know if this helped or even hurt. Application is free.

You then check to see if you've been accepted by plugging your application number into a website a month or so later. I couldn't get the website to work and my emails to the international students office did not receive a reply. Consequently, I emailed two "ombudsmen". These are independent resources to whom one takes complaints in Sweden. I emailed the Legislative and Executive ombudsmen, both are government officials. BTH is a "state" school.

Shortly thereafter I received an email from BTH, followed by a letter, stating I had been admitted to the MBA program and apologizing for the failure of the webpage to inform me of that. Did my complaints to the ombudsmen influence me being admitted? I don't have a clue.

Good luck. I'll let you know what I think of the program as I progress.

I don't know how much I can help you because I dropped out after the first year due to acute boredom. I did not find the program to be difficult. The faculty are helpful but administration is a bit disorganized.

All the books used are either American or British and are readily available. In addition, enterprising Third-World students scanned the books and posted them on the web.

Students from all around the world are in the program which makes it somewhat unique. Many are from developing countries.

You should note that there are many, many more applicants for the program than can be accepted. I don't really know what the criteria for acceptance is either, but they do want you to have some management experience.

You should inquire as to whether the program is still free to all. There was discussion last year about charging non-Sweden residents.
