Wow, this is a first of its kind in the United States, isn't it? I've always had an interest in Sociology. This gives me something to think about once I complete my Bachelor's.

    NMSU tuition

Potentially cost-effective little statement concerning NMSU tuition:

Per credit for 1 to 11 or over 18 credits - Nonresidents enrolling in 6 or less credits at main campus pay NM Resident Cost

I've noticed that many public colleges and universities in NM state this policy. If applicable to non-residents, $199.20 per semester hour tuition rate is a bargain for this degree. Total degree tuition sans fees comes out to around $7,400.

That's also interesting because NMSU has a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction available mostly via distance although with two week residencies in two consecutive summers. There's only one term where one would exceed the six credit hour limit.

Sorry I'm late to this thread. I think its great there is a M.A in Sociology via distance learning available. Based on my limited experience, there's not much on these types of programs out there.

Not sure if we're looking only at the US, but since offerings appear to be rather slim in the US itself, Sweden also has the following 1-year program labeled as a 'Masters' program...and of course, it's free at the current rates. I have indeed confirmed with their current contact for the program that it is entirely doable by distance.

Credit to Warguns, I believe, for pointing this out initially...

I have always wanted to know if this applies to distance learning students. I would think not, because distance learning students would not be at the main campus. Does anyone know for sure. I emailed their distance learning department and have received no reply.

    Good afternoon!

According to the program summary at http://vrc.nmsu.edu/distance/degrees/details.cfm?id=51 on the web, the costs are "Current main campus tuition and fees plus a $25 per credit hour distance education fee."

By the way, Dr. Hoffman was very responsive when I inquired about the program back in 2007. The degree program looked very solid and the faculty at NMSU had some great research interests and expertise.

    Have a nice day!
