I have read some postings on Amberton

i am interested in their master degree in training for the following reasons:

It is a relative cheap degree ( around 7000 usd). No i am not referring to the workload.

it is the only one that i could find specializing in training.

    But something keeps bothering me:

    http://www.amberton.edu/Graduate_2003_LISTING_OF_GRADUATE_DEGREE.htm

This is a list from 2003, does it mean that the school is behind with time?

Is it a RA or NA school?

And does anyone have experience with their masters degree or is there a special forum for the school?

Are there any other training degrees ( no certificates please)?

    Thanks in advance

They are an RA school. Just because the title in the URL is "2003" should not be a concern. Maybe the online program was created in 2003 and the webpage is updated but the name remained the same. With comments like, "In addition, students who complete the program meet the academic requirements for becoming Licensed Professional Counselors (L.P.C.) in the State of Texas. " I would assume they stay up to date.

I would search this forum for comments on the school. I don't remember ever seeing anything bad about them.

The same as Randell said. There is no negative complain about Amberton University, or there is no extremely positive neither. Their main campus in Garland, Texas (Dalls Metroplex area); and one or two extended campus around the metroplex. I just moved to this area within a year, and it seems that not many people around this area know that the school is existed. Even though I heard Amberton University since 2003; when I tried to apply for a Bachelor degree.

I would say Amberton University is neutral.

The page was (as others have suggested) likely first created in 2003. Perhaps no one saw a need to change the name of the URL. The program I believe you are considering (listed below) seems fine to me.

Amberton University’s Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Human Resource Training and Development:
    http://www.amberton.edu/DistMS4.htm

I have never read or heard that there was anything “wrong” with Amberton University, but if you’d like to look into the history of the school, this site provides some background:
    http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/AA/kbaae.html

The few times I have heard the school mentioned outside this forum, I got the impression that it was one of those little-known-schools which cater to the educational needs of working adults, but that the programs were well-regarded by many in the local community.

If you are looking for a program focusing on “training” aspects in the area of human resources, and would prefer to study through an institution with broader national (and international) recognition, you might want to consider the following program offered by
    University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign:
    http://www.online.uillinois.edu/catalog/ProgramDetail.asp?ProgramID=17

There are probably a number of other programs that would suit your interests. Perhaps someone else can suggest a few more.

Amberton was on my short list when I was looking for an online MBA. I contacted the school for some clarification on taking exams outside the US and their response was something like, "It's on the website you moron."

However, this was around 98 or 99. They might be a little more pleasant to deal with now.

    Edovwave,

    Did they actually say that?

I can't remember if they said "moron", "idiot", or "stupid", but it was something to that effect.

Wow! Couldn't believe they said that.

Actually, Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual University www.kcvu.org offers their MS in Human Resource Education through the University of Louisville.

I am just finishing an MBA from Amberton in Strategic Leadership. I have had a very positive experience, as have a few others who used to post here. In fact, I have referred several friends and colleagues to Amberton and all have had similar experiences to my own.

There are a few things that I wish they handled differently -- the advising process (you are not assigned a specific advisor, but just call into the 'pool' at the advisement number) and their lack of an online registration process (everything must be mailed or faxed), but other than that, it has been very positive. The price is right (for most of my program it was $200/credit hour -- recently raised to $225 -- still a pretty good deal), it is RA, the profs are great and very responsive, and I learned a lot.

    Hope that helps...

Nothing is wrong with Amberton, except maybe the limited amount of course variety, but beyond that the school is high quality and rigorous, maybe a little too rigorous. I am taking a grad level marketing course right now at Amberton and the first assignment which included several open ended essay questions, readings and multiple choice questions took me several hours to complete. But then again I don't typically skim through my work. I read to absorb as much as I possibly can and really focus on my answers, so that can take a little longer. For the money I'm spending, I want to be sure that I am learning. I think I would probably prefer a brick and mortar style, but I don't have the money for that.
