This program differs from their Skills Certificate and resembles for the format of Tulaneu.com or Thunderbirdglobal.com. But at $1800 is much cheaper than the others. Some of the course modules are 2 hours while the average is 4.:)

For the Certificate in Marketing Mangement (from Rutgers):

"The course modules, on average, take about 4 hours each, so the entire program will take you 100 hours +/-, including the built-in tests.
You will have the support of a Rutgers Advisor-Instructor with whom you will have phone and Internet interaction, and who will provide you with several written assignments designed to help you connect the material you are learning with your career or business. "

Anyone have any experience with this Rutger's branch of learning?

I have seen many online certificates through Rutgers and they all seem to be different and come from different places. No centralized location for their online programs.

These are the Gatlin certificates I have asked about numerous times. Nobody around here seems to know anything about them. I've only met one person who had heard of them and he said they were a waste of money. However, I do not think his opinion was reasoned or educated. I don't think he actually took a Gatlin course. They are offered by several larger Universities (Rutgers, Tennessee, Georgia) and tons of community colleges. The prices are roughly the same, so you might as well select a college with some real name recognition, like Rutgers. Why spend the same money on the same cert from Mary's College of Rug Cleaning when you can put "Rutgers" on your CV? These certs are signed off by the sponsoring school (in this case, Rutgers) but are administered by Gatlin Education, which is not connected with Rutgers.

I'm just curious as to how this stacks up against any number of undergrad or grad certificates; anyone care to guess?

Well, aside from the inherent learning opportunity, one could stand to benefit from name recognition. It depends upon individual needs.

For example, an 18 credit hour grad certificate in technology leadership available by distance through the University of Virginia would cost an out-of-state resident $6,786 in tuition, but carries graduate credit. Considering UVa's own brand name and ranking by various publications, I could rate UVa on par with Rutgers as far as name recognition is concerned.

But what if a prospective student simply requires continuing education credit or a resume booster? Again, individual requirements dictate choices, in my opinion.

I see, so Rutgers program only carries CEU credit value while an RA or NA program would carry regular credit value.

So does CEU credits have any constructive benefit (outside of the work place?)

I don't think so. Many professional organizations that offer some kind of certification require continuing education in the form of CEUs. In my own industry, the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA.com) offers the Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) credential that requires 50 ceus every three years to maintain certification. These Rutgers certs would work well for that, since most of the credential is basic business knowlege anyway. I'm sure that other credentials are the same.
