Periodically I have read discussions on the board regarding the interest many members have in qualifying to sit for the CPA exam. So when a friend mentioned considering Syracuse University’s MS in Accounting program in order to gain the additional graduate credits he needs, I decided to post a link so others may look into it, as well.

For those of us on the west coast, or for our neighbors in the mid-west or to the south, it may not be a feasible option since there is a residency requirement. However, the program is “accredited by the AACSB-International” as well as “registered with New York State as a 150-hour qualifying licensure program.” Also, it does offer the interesting alternative of “transfer to the fulltime MS Accounting program,” apparently. So for fellow posters who have an accounting undergraduate degree living within commuting distance in that region, it might be a good choice.

If this program has already been presented many times before, please disregard my post. I tend to follow the board more attentively when programs in the fields of education, information technologies, and law are discussed.

I was unaware of the Syracuse program. Thanks for the post!

I found that program last month and was seriously looking at it. Tuition is quite high at over $1000 per credit, which is nearly triple the tuition of Sacramento State and nearly double the program at UCONN. Note sure if the Syracuse name is worth the added cost.

If anyone is just trying to accumlate enough undergraduate accounting hours to sit for the CPA exam and you already have enough graduate hours in business to satisfy the requirements for licensure in your state, you might consider the accounting courses (30 undergraduate hours) and/or certificate at LSU:

    http://is.lsu.edu/courselist.asp?cat=Accounting&nid=102&pg=

    http://is.lsu.edu/ACCTCertificateProg.asp?nid=103&Level=CO&Online=1

The 30 UG hours in accounting will cost you a mere $2,290 plus books, etc. It has to be one of the best DL values in North America!
