    Good evening,

One of the employees at the college I'm working at has decided to pursue a degree in management. Although she a great deal of credits (AA + an unknown quanitity in education - she's stopping by my office tomorrow with transcripts), she has zero business credits.

While I can direct her to a great many inexpensive options for the business degree (thanks everyone!) this might be a situation where it may be in the best interest to finish the BA or BGS - and then apply into an MBA program. I want to look at both options.

So, I know that some reasonably priced BA/BGS Liberal Arts include the Big 3 and Peru State College. Can anyone assist with others? Thanks in advance!

Since she has no business credit, and she'll need 36 credits in it to graduate from one of the Big Three, there's no advantage to going through one of them unless she does well on standardized tests and can knock out some of Excelsior's business exams.

Otherwise, I say Peru, assuming they accept all her credits.

(Wow, I just realized that I've literally recommended Peru twice in three minutes. Evidently having four kids makes one cost conscious!)

LSU has a BGS, and a three unit/credit class is approximately $230.00.

While she's doing her BGS or BLS she should consider adding undergraduate credits (like accounting, stats, finance, etc.) that would eventually become a prerequisite to the MBA. That way she'll kill two birds with one stone.

Prerequisites for an MBA are very specific to the program in question. So, it might help to get an idea of which MBA program she is interested in and then see what they want. The B&M MBA I am entering in the fall only requires Calculus and Statistics as pre-reqs, no business courses, and you can only use undergraduate business courses to waive some of the core courses if they were taken at an AACSB accredited school within the last 5 years.

Very true! While Nova's prerequisites (for example) included:
statistics, economics, accounting, marketing and finance.

But I agree with Sindaena. Check with your future school and find out what their prereqs are. Then you can tailor your BGS to knock out a few of those courses before graduation.

Here's another, this one from UMass -

I'd have to say that within the realm of Bachelors degrees in Liberal Arts/General Studies, there probably isn't a significant difference between one program and the next. I'd say that your friend should either go for the one closest to home or just go for the least expensive.
