Capella earns NSA designation - (2007-06-29)

Capella has gained national recognition for excellence in information assurance education. To recognize Capella University's role in securing our nation's information systems, the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have designated Capella a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education for the academic years 2007-2012. To earn this status, Capella's information technology programs, curriculum, and faculty passed a rigorous review demonstrating our commitment to academic excellence in information assurance education.

Nova Southeastern is also on the list

Nova Southeastern is also on this list - as are hundreds of schools across the country.

This is true. Just like there are hundreds with aacsb, APA, ABET, etc., recognition. Of course, that there are hundreds does not diminish the value of the recognition.

    Congrats to Capella and KM.

A noteworthy accomplishment. Now all they need to do is lower their outrageous tuition to levels near that of other NSA-certified programs. Perhaps they can accomplish this by cutting a few million out of their infantile marketing campaign.

If they are having no trouble getting new enrolees at the current tuition level, it is likely because their marketing campaign is working. Probably won't see any tuition reductions until the market dictates it.

The next time someone says something good about Nova, I'll go ahead and say, "..hundreds of other schools are on the list too." ;)

Please do! The NSA lists has a lot of schools on it - some are community colleges, others are well known national universities. To be on the list a school must meet NSA's curriculum requirements - but according to the NSA it "does not address the quality of the presentation of the material within the courseware; it simply ensures that all of the elements of a specific standard are included." If you are looking for a program in Information Assurance the list is a great starting point . But don't confuse the NSA list with major accreditation like ABET, APA, AACSB, etc.

Gosh...I was getting a little bored. No Capella bashing in quite a long time. I thought to myself when I viewed the Capella name in the title.....wonder how long it will take the normal Capella haters to jump on board. Thanks guys for not letting me down.

While many other schools may have it, that doesn't mean that NSA approval is nothing, so I think it's a feather in Capella's cap to have it.

I see ITT Technical Institute is also listed at the NSA site. Good to see N\A schools are also able to participate in the program.
