"City University California"

Is there any forum member who has not engaged in the pleasant time-waster of the search for faculty at accredited universities that have degrees from diploma mills or unaccredited institutions?

Here's a twist: offenders slightly change the name of their diploma mill so it doesn't come up in searches. Example: "Dr" Joe Block at Sacred Heart University lists his EdD as from City University California.

Actually it's from "City University Los Angeles" http://www.cula.edu/index.asp
which boasts of its accreditation from Association of Accredited Private Schools, that itself is accredited by the Uaxashaktun Ministry of Education! Not only that, CULA actually "maintains a corporate account with the United States Postal service, Express Mail Delivery."!

According to Dr Bear CULA lost it's California approval in 1995. You wouldn't know that from their web page, which neglects to mention this. According to Dr Bear, its corporate owner offered prospective "students" the degree of their choice to be issued but they had to pay 50% down before the name of the school would be revealed.

I emailed the chair of the Physics Department at Sacred Heart where "Dr" Block is employed. (It's a department with only TWO faculty so I suppose they made the single one with an accredited degree the chair)

Personally I feel sorry for Dr Slamet, the Chair, who possibly had nothing to do with hiring Bloch.

Here's the Chair's response followed by my email:

    Prof. Block,

Would you like to comment on this?

To XXXXXX: please do not send any future correspondence to me anymore. Send your concern directly to Prof. Block. Thank you.

    Marlina Slamet.-

Of course you are aware that the "City University Los Angeles" is unaccredited and about as close to a fraud as a school can be without perhaps exactly being labeled one. I note that on "Dr" Block's web page http://www.sacredheart.edu/pages/3755_joel_block_ed_d_.cfm this fraud is pathetically concealed by calling this dump "City University California"

    It's a disgrace.

The disgrace is that the BPPVE can't seem to do anything about operations like CULA and Kennedy-Western who run from California without that state's approval.

I agree. Further, CULA gives the impression that it IS California State approved. Here's what I wrote to [email protected]

    ____________________________________________________

I understand that this institution is no longer California State approved.

Permit me to call your attention to a statement on their webpage that implies that it is:

Dr. Robert D. Welty, Consultant in the Office of Private Postsecondary Education, wrote in 1979: "City University Los Angeles is authorized to operate under California law. The degrees they award after instruction has taken place are legal degrees and recognized under the law as equal to their counterparts from other schools any place in the world.
"Acceptance of their degrees by other schools and/or employers is at the discretion of the people involved which is true of any degree."
