I searched degreeinfo.com to see if this was listed and didn't see a post...

For those that find exploded timebombs interesting...I offer this blog I stumbled across on the 'net.

I particularly like the picture of the cat wearing the motarboard . . . my hat is off to whomever got that cat to sit long enough to have his picture taken!

    Thanks for the link!

    Cheers,

I read that story - again - about the cat awarded the MBA.

    Priceless...

Yeah, they were shut down in '04 - still a healthy web presence for all the 1000's of people are caught up in its quagmires. Muddled reading...

While I served at Fort Gordon, GA, I ran into one PhD from Columbia State University...IIRC, he told me that "...this is the distance education wing of Columbia University in New York." I remember being between appointments and not being able to dialogue as much as I would have liked. I was shocked he'd lie to my face so openly...especially since neither of us had influence over the other's career.

Thanks to the work I put in at my current uni in doing a faculty credential audit in preparation for application for SACS accreditation, I've become known as the one everyone turns to for degree verification, e.g. with new hires, or when one of our current employees suddenly turns up with a new degree and wants it added to their personnel file.

It's amazing how many people who hold such degrees do either blatantly lie, as you experienced, or swear that they, at least, did loads and loads of work to earn the degree, that it was not bought, etc. My usual reaction to this, (both as an HR professional and personally) and it's happened several times now, is first, once such a degree comes to light, my estimation of that person's integrity drops, but then when they try to deny their "school" is a mill, or unaccredited, or say they don't know, or swear they did "real work" . . . then my estimation of them goes to absolute zero.

I've given training classes before on how to choose an accredited distance degree here, but I haven't in awhile; perhaps I should do so again. Thanks for putting me on that line of thinking!

    Cheers,
    Adrienne
