COSC cost me about $1,000 and I would assume TESC is about the same.

    Nope

TESC is much, much higher. I haven't done a cost comparison against Excelsior lately, but TESC would cost 2300 for a Bachelor's as opposed to $1300 at COSC if I recall correctly.

What does that difference buy you? With TESC, you can get an actual major as opposed to COSC "liberal arts" diploma.

I did this comparision when I was trying to decide between EC and TESC.
Given that you are transferring in 100% of the credits needed for a B.S., and completing this process within a year...

    Thomas Edison
    In-State
    (New Jersey)
    Application Fee $ 75
    Annual Tuition $ 1220
    Tech. Fee $ 97
    Graduation Fee $ 225
    Total $ 1617

    Thomas Edison
    Out-of-State

    Application Fee $ 75
    Annual Tuition $ 2193
    Tech Fee $ 97
    Grad Fee $225
    Total $ 2590

    Excelsior
    Application Fee $ 75
    Annual Tuition $ 995
    Graduation Fee $ 495
    Total $ 1565

The Excelsior estimate is consistent with the experience of both the wife and I except:

The application fee is waived if you don't need a pre-registration formal review of your credit. It's very unlikely that someone would have 100% complete at Excelsior including the Information Literacy course.

$1500 more or less if you've already completed all of the degree requirements. And this would allow for 1 full year to complete anything you had missed.

It is not a liberal arts diploma.

  7. Do you have to pay the annual tuition fee if you do not take any classes? that number to me reflects the amount it would cost to take courses with them... I am meeting with a tesc rep at the college office on base so I guess i will find out what I am looking at paying plus i need to see if my gi bill will pay for all of this.

I agree that few people will transfer in the Info. Lit. credit.

The Information Literacy credit is required by Excelsior, and if you can't find a cheaper alternative, then you will have to pay $285 for the E.C. one credit course. You should consider this additional cost in your total.

Yes, and perhaps annual enrollment fee would be better terminology. It buys you a year of "advisement". If you need longer than a year then you have to pay $440, which buys you another year.

I just noticed, the above Excelsior enrollment fee should be $895 and not $995, sorry.

A distinction that is lost on many but important to others:

The TESC BA with a major and the Excelsior BA with a major and the COSC BA with a concentration are each examples of a "liberal arts" degree.

To many people, the distinction "liberal arts" degree makes the diploma more valuable than an equivalent level vocational or professional diploma. To others, the vocational or professional has more value.

We should not confuse though that whether it is called a major, or focus, or concentration, or nothing at all isn't what defines a "liberal arts" education. The degree need not be called 'Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts' in order for it to in fact be a "liberal arts" curriculum.

  12. I am not really concerned with the major or liberal arts part of the deal but mainly the cost, TESC i looking better that COSC because I have 30 fema courses i am going to have to get credit for, i would have to pay tesc $250 anyways just to get them banked. If I could roll everything i got into a BA in whatever at tesc or cosc for the cheapest price i really dont care. I am still going to continue taking classes at excelsior and graduate there with BS in political science, so anything besides that is extra.
