It has been a while since I have been on this site, however, I wanted to at least write to say that I have completed my DBA with Breyer State, Alabama and finally glad to be done.

I know there was much discussion with my posts and although I was accepted at NCU in their RA program, I had already completed a few courses with Breyer State and wanted to go ahead and complete the degree.

Earning this degree has been more for personal accomplishment than anything else and I am proud of finally earning the DBA degree.

All I can state from my experience is that the faculty were very attentive to my needs and were genuinely interested in me as a student and that was one of the main highlights of my experience with them.

In addition, many of the faculty I had the pleasure to lead my coursework were from highly reputable and accredited Universities and also teach at many of the well known Distance learning schools as well as BSU

I am excited to be done and just wanted to share my experience.

Congratulations – I must ask the most common question: What is next?

Some day I hope to be posting a similar announcement.

Congratulations on your personal achievement and having met your learning objectives.

However, looking at your signature line, I sincerely hope DegreeInfo is the only location you are presenting yourself as a DBA.

Other parties without as much knowledge of the higher education industry may confuse your DBA with a legitimate credential guaranteeing a basic standard of achievement, which a Breyer State degree certainly is not.

Curious, what is NCU's "RA" program?

"RA" is short for "regionally accredited." Click here to see NCU's RA programs.

I'm not sure I share the enthusiasm of others in this thread about the "completion" of a degree from Breyer State. A Google search of this school, which I'm sure future employers will do, will pull up some less-than-flattering feedback on its background and the folks who run it.

About two years ago you indicated you were going to leave a school which is unaccreditted at best and seek out an accredited program. I think not doing so will have consequences for you in the future. At the very least, I believe you may have lost some money on this one.

First, congratulations on accomplishing your goal. After all, that is what matters most.

For those of us that are looking into doctorate programs and such I hope you do not mind my asking a couple of questions.

Why Breyer State University? I have no desire to teach in academa at all. But I would like to use the DBA title if I earn it. The last thing I would want in a competitive enviroment is someone pointing out my degree is considered illegal in some states. For example, Texas:

Again, not to be negative but would like to know your reasoning and defense against issues like this. Feel free to PM if you prefer.

    Hi back2cali

You worked hard for your M.S. from Auburn University. This is a well respected university. With the MS from Auburn you will do just fine. Do yourself a favor, and do not list questionable schools (unaccredited) on your resume, it will come back to bite you. For self-fulfillment purposes it is great, Congratulations.

Does NCU have non RA programs? Could one naturally presume when you enroll in NCU that their degree offerings are RA.

No one would say I am enrolling in a University of Illinois RA program. Perhaps I am just still unclear as to the intent for the qualifier.

NCU does not have non-RA programs. If you are enrolled in NCU, you are enrolled in an RA school.

I appreciate and value all of the opinions shared on this site and I am aware of BSU's questionable state as described on various posts etc.

However, I feel I have earned what I call a "difficult degree program" and I am proud to have completed the DBA program with Breyer State.

I also agree in that although I am proud of my accomplishment and feel I was taught and led by qualified professionals in their field of work, I will still be conscious in my decisions to flamboyantly list or jump to point out my DBA degree is from BSU.

Perhaps BSU will continue to progress towards a NA or RA status at some point in time, and if so, this will be an even greater reward for me as well.

Until then, I am excited to be done with the program and can also state that coming from my Auburn background, I can honestly state first-hand that the experience with BSU was very good with a well designed and thought out curriculum.

Congratulations! It would be interesting to hear any thoughts you would like to share regarding the doctoral process at Breyer State. Of course, as you have noticed, most of those who have negative things to say about your achievement, have earned no doctoral qualification in any educational system, so they are clueless. Those who trash things they don't know about are obviously not the sharpest knives in the drawer, but I'm sure you've already come to that conclusion. Unaccredited doctorates have limited economic utility, but if legitimate represent a significant learning achievement. So, as Randell asked, what's next? There a RA and NA options if you want to continue pursuing your research interests.

On the other hand, BSU may find it much easier and more cost-effective to stick with their existing accreditor, the Central States Consortium of Colleges and Schools. It appears that CSCCB offers certain unique advantages to BSU, as reported recently in The New Republic:

Realistically, it's hard to argue with the convenience and cost savings of having your own school evaluated by your own accreditation agency.

No, I don't have a doctorate, but some would argue that neither does back2cali. He posted here two years ago about the need to get an accredited degree, and then went with Breyer State anyway. That's his choice. It is also the choice of the majority of employers in the marketplace and the majority of colleges and universities in the U.S. to not recognize unaccredited degrees. Stating a fact doesn't make me "clueless" or a "dull knife" or whatever other cliche' you want to throw out there.

In some states, it is ILLEGAL to try and use an unaccredited degree. It's not just the accreditation (or lack thereof) aspect of Breyer State that raises red flags for me. It's also the questionable accreditation that it claims. Central States Consortium of Colleges and Schools? This is not an accrediting agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education. Then there is this bit of disturbing info which I picked up on Wikipedia: "The parent organization of CSCCS is AIHCP[4], which lists Breyer president Dominick L. Flarey as Executive Director[5]. Thus, BSU's claimed accreditor is controlled by the BSU president." This does not lend BSU an air of legitimacy.

From back2cali's description, he actually did do work to achieve his doctorate from Breyer State, which is definately better than just purchasing one. Hopefully, this is an indicator that Breyer State is taking steps toward more exacting standards and legitimate accreditation.
