I can tell you that the CU ITP program aggressively partners with the commercial telecom sector to find internships and paid positions for its graduates. They boast a near 100% placement rate.
Nope - three classes left. I'm in no hurry, as I'm no longer receiving assistance from my employer. As for CU ITP being intense, definitely - of the distance programs I looked at, it's probably on par with SMU, Syracuse, and Oklahoma State. I'd venture to say that Stevens and RIT's programs are probably more difficult. For someone with your background and aspirations, I'd recommend the Pace/NACTEL program - it was developed with heavy input from both telecom carriers and communication workers unions: http://www.nactel.org/programs/degrees.php
