Hi this is my first post. I teach and work in administration for an international college level intercultural studies program in Papua New Guinea (PNG). I am a US Citizen. In making a decision on a Ed.D program I am looking at two choices: Liberty University in the US and Griffith University in Australia < http://www14.gu.edu.au/cis/p_cat/admission.asp?ProgCode=6005 > Griffith is research based so it does not have general course work and a comprehensive exam. It does have a dissertation but rather than an oral defense it is sent out to external examiners. Reputation and employer preference: One day I would like to impart what I have learned and accomplished in PNG in a North American setting teaching in college or university as a full time position or adjunct faculty (online or B&M) Which would be preferable? Any other thoughts would be welcome. Thanks! EMK BA: Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada B.Ed: Nipissing University, Canada M.Ed: Seattle Pacific University, USA
Griffith University It looks like there are some residency requirements for Griffith University. Does it look the same to you?
Yes, a total of three...there are two weekend courses in March and two in August and one more trip for the dissertation seminar...a total of three trips from PNG... EMK
Welcome to the jungle! Are you an evangelical Christian? If so you may appreciate Liberty University, and my understanding is that they're pretty good at distance education. On the other hand, if you're not an evangelical Christian you want to consider how potential secular university employers might feel about your EdD being from a university headed by Jerry Falwell. Academia isn't exactly known for a pro-Christianity bias. -=Steve=-
Steve, Greetings! I couldn't help but note the irony of your comments having been posted almost exactly 24 hours prior to Dr. Falwell's death. As an alum of that institution, I will be watching with interest how its future will be impacted by the absence of that prominent figure from Liberty Mountain.
I think it will be all right. I expect he was a strong leader, but I'm sure he wasn't the one making all the decisions; in the end he's just one man. Anyway, evidently the new chancellor will be Jerry Falwell, Jr., so I like to think that my previous comment is still accurate. -=Steve=-
