I’m looking for online courses in Demography or Population Studies. I found a Fall 2007 course offering from FHSU. Anything else out there?

Also, DO any of you know any DL programs out there in this subject? I don’t have a cost limit right now, just finding something has been hard enough already.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi,

You didn't say what level or length of course you are looking for. However, if you just want the basics try http://www.londonexternal.ac.uk/lse. London offers a unit in demography as part of the BSc Geography and Environment degree. If you just want to take the one unit you'd study as something called an occassional student.

    It might suit.

    All the best,

    Brendan

Is this close to what you're looking for?

    Empire State College

    WORLD POPULATION (HIS-243314)

    http://www.esc.edu/admin/esc/cdl/cdlcat.nsf/all/0A4F67A902B151FD8525680100438D35?opendocument

    Course Description:
Acquire a broad background understanding of the United States and world population, including the causes and consequences of its growth. Learn about the three primary demographic processes -- fertility, mortality and migration -- that are at the heart of population questions. Learn how to locate demographic data sources online, including U.S. Census Bureau sources. Apply your understanding of world and U.S. population and population processes to related issues such as U.S. Census 2000, overpopulation, undocumented international migration, social security, or ethical questions about population policy; to issues less directly related to population, such as natural resource exhaustion, environmental degradation, or business and economic development.

Prerequisites: prospective students should have some coursework in the social sciences and be able to perform elementary algebraic calculations. No knowledge of statistics or calculus is necessary.

Thank you Brendan and James for finding me some options.

Brendan, are you affiliated with UOL? I think I remember you stating this, but I’m not sure. If I were to register for just that one unit, would I have to pay the initial registration fee?

    Hi

    Yes, I work for UoL.

Registering as an occassional student you'd pay:

    an application fee £52
    a reduced registration fee £253
    the unit fee £146

So it's probably not the cheapest option, especially given the current strength of the £ to the $.

    All fees are 2007-8.

    Hope this helps,

    Brendan
