I have been on this board for a few years now and while I want to start my Doctoral studies in Business I always get sidetracked and I cannot seem to make a decision on where to go.

This is my final set of criteria:

1- I want to teach PT (can be on line) or at a community college. I am a faculty member, class advisor at Pepperdine for their MBA program so that helps the resume.

2- Needs to be accredited, RA or GAAP.

3- Prefer entirely long distance and do not mind coursework to go along with the program.

I have considered and almost went with Northcentral but I keep having second thoughts. I just sent my request for information to Pretoria since they seem to be a favorite of many.

    Questions:

I know there are endless threads about NCU but can someone once again comment on their utilty for teaching other than tenure track?

What about Pretoria, do I have to go to SA at all or can I do it entirely long distance?

Thanks once again for the helpful advice.

I wondered the same question a couple of years ago. I ended up calling a local Florida Tech office to get their opinion. The person there who hires adjuncts asked me one question about NCU. Is it RA? I told him it was and he informed me that it would be fine.

I think for your purposes, any RA doctorate will work.

    Hi Lajazz947,

If I wasn't mistaken, I thought you have already decided on Swiss Management Center for your doctorate.

I was going to start at SMC...............

But after speaking to several professors at Pepperdine they discouraged me from doing so. They said that RA was a must for a teaching position at a major school in whatever capacity.

Interestingly enough they do not hold as extreme a critical view of Distance ed as you might think. ( At least these did not ). They did not however, with all necessary apologies, look kindly upon UofP.

One MBA classmate of mine who just finished his Doctorate at Capella is posturing to teach there and he has the support of the faculty. He is a class advisor in another MBA class as am I.

The sense that I am getting but you probably all know this already, is that with less than an RA brick and mortar Doctorate you need to work the resume and the contacts by teaching at other lower tier schools and cultivating relationships that might positively sway those that you are seeking to work for.

Just my two cents but I gotta admit, I was excited about the SMC.

    Visits to Pretoria?

Does anybody know if the PhD in business program at Pretoria requires any campus visits?

I have sent for information but I wanted to know if anyone had an answer prior to going too far in the process.

    Thanks

For what it's worth - I have been very satisfied with my experiences with Capella. I am slowly coming to the end of the light with my doctoral journey. I've completed my coursework and my comp exams, and am waiting for feedback on my dissertation proposal.

My classes have been enlightening and challenging and I have had a great working relationship with my advisor.

I will admit that I've had to do a bit more selling of my qualifications at conferemces, but overall I've been happy with my experience.

Best of luck in your decision.

    Thanks

My buddy has finally gotten through his dissertation stage and is just waiting for one more bit of information from the faculty.

He too was pleased with the process.

    Good luck to you.

    Hi,

    what about www.dualdba.net ?

Universidad Mayor according to their website is a candidate for accreditation with the middle states commission (RA) and is government accredited in chile, smc is a candidate for ACBSP accreditation.

Ya know, I thought about this for a long time.

SMC looks so good that I keep tying to find a reason to go there. I guess this board just has me afraid of the RA or no way frame of mind.

I have been told by Pepperdine that I could teach in the undergrad program without a Doctorate and that makes it easier to accept SMC but I still have doubts.

Can anyone ( Rich? ) shed light on the ACBSP accreditation issue and the association with the Chilean university?

Would the association translate into RA status or am I going to look at a SCUPS/NCU issue with one being RA, the other not but the stigma of the non RA school hanging over my head?

Thanks for all the replies. I am SO ready to get going.
