Most of the posts appear to be about accreditation as opposed to best practices. How do you feel about cdroms, textbooks, sychronous and asynchronous chats, videotapes or other DL practices. What has been effective for you as an instructor or student? Have any of you ever incorporated DL practices in a traditional classroom to facilitate or enrich learning?
This forum seems to have evolved into discussing things primarily from the student or would-be student point of view. The kinds of issues you raise could well be relevant here, I think, but are discussed regularly on AEDnet (Adult Education Network), and DEOS (Distance Education Online Service), one offered by Nova Southeastern, the other by Penn State, and I never remember which is which.
DEOS is Penn State. I get their automatic listing, but usually can't bring myself to read it. While there are some very knowledgeable posts, most of it does, as John points out, relate more to process rather than product. I deal with process all day in my job as a training developer and trainer for AT&T, so I hear enough of it there. I prefer to look at the utility of nontraditional degrees. I find accreditation, licensing, and the like far more interesting. Rich Douglas
