I just found out about this program in October 2006 and was admitted to the program in December 2006. I am currently enrolled in two courses for the spring 2007 semester but I haven't started yet. What would you like to know?
I really was only wondering if there were others who perhaps have had experience with the D.Sc. at DSU. It looked interesting to me upon first glance, but I am curious about the reception of the degree in the job market. basrsu
DSc @ DSU Hello, I have several questions if you wouldn't mind taking the time: 1. How often will you need to attend the campus during your studies? 2. It seems the program is research intensive? Is it required to have a research background? 3. How about published literature? 4. I have a RA masters degree (MBA w/ MIS, 4.0 GPA) but never took the graduate entrance exam. Will I still need to sit for the exam? The program is attractive to me because of the specialization in Healthcare IT. Also, adding MSIT to my credentials would be a nice touch. I do realize that I may need to take some foundation courses. Thanks and good luck! Qc
1. The only course I am aware of right now that requires one weekend a month visits is INFS 750 (Telecommunications Technology & Network Management). And after speaking with the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, he informed me that DSU is looking for a way to conduct those "visits" through some sort of electronic means (i.e. VTC, internet, etc.) 2. You do not need to have a research background to be admitted to the program. The program has the necessary research courses built in. 3. To gain admissions, no. However, the program does require a qualifying portfolio which may consist of a combination of any of the following: - research papers co-authored with a faculty member and submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed conference or journal. - teaching evaluations from information systems undergraduate courses. - grant proposals co-authored with a faculty member and submitted for funding to an appropriate agency. 4. Since your master’s degree is RA and you have a high GPA, the GRE can be waived. DSU is very strict about the courses they accept towards the MSIS requirement. You may get credit for those courses from your MBA MIS specialization so long as they line up with DSU’s MSIS courses. For DSU’s DSc, there is no short cut. I am looking at completing the MSIS and the DSc. My main concern is getting burned out.
