Thanks for your patience with the recent downtime

Hey, all,

Thanks very much for your patience with the recent downtime for the upgrade of the DegreeInfo discussion board.

The previous version of VBulletin (the software that runs the DegreeInfo discussion board) was very, very old -- 2002 to be exact -- and had recently become prone to security exploits that could allow a hacker access to the server hosting the software.

What you see now is the first step in a larger upgrade/facelift for DegreeInfo. The upgrade process is a complicated task requiring a lot of steps, and we know there are still some issues with searching the archives which we will be continuing to work on.

We will also be replacing the generic VBulletin templates with customized DegreeInfo ones within coming weeks.

In the meantime, if you come across any oddities in the archives, or any other functionality of the discussion forums, please either append a note here or private message me.

Thanks for giving as a forum to discuss something that we all feel is important. The new look is great.

 

I like the new look of the forum. Nice job.

 

I really hate this new look. It is very distracting.

 

The plain old vanilla vBulletin default theme has that effect on folks. As he said in his post, they'll be loading up a DegreeInfo theme soon. I'm sure there are lots of other kinks that need attention first though, as I've yet to see a forum software upgrade that's gone completely smooth.

 

I sure wish I could figure why this design seems familiar.

 

And what's this garbage about "Registered User"? I wannabe "Senior Member" again!

Chip: Steve Foerster emailed me to ask me to inform you that he cannot log in using either Firefox or IE as it says that his password is wrong and then takes him to a page with no password recovery feature.

Why cant I pull up any recent search results? Everything I get is around 5 years old.

Well, I know that Rich Douglas and Janko Preotul have definitely still out-posted me, even after a year's absence, and Jimmy Clifton may still have, too. So, there are bigger Chief Ueber Users than me.
