I am currently enrolled at AMU/APU in the AA General Studies degree. So far, I have completed 33 credit hours with another 12 credit hours in the works. I have found most of the courses to be worthwhile, though not every instructor has been sufficiently engaged in the course. That said, I am enjoying my studies with AMU/APU.

I have only contacted the school administrative staff once and they were knowledgable and helpful. As I said previously, most of the instructors have been exceptationally well-qualified and ensure the learning experience does not feel like a solitary activity. Class sizes vary from 5 students (minimum) to 15 students (maximum).

How are the exams administered? What are the typical essay/term paper requirements per course (are the classes more essay driven or more test driven)?

Some courses require proctored examinations and other courses have non-proctored on-line, at home or office, examinations. Additionally, some proctored examinations are closed-book while all non-proctored examinations are open-book. I have taken both types of examinations.

As to your question regarding essay/term-paper requirements per course that varies from course to course. However, most courses are relatively writing intensive (5+ pieces of written work, including take-home exams). The instuctors are always willing to work with the students to help them improve their writing skills. EN101 and EN102 are excellent courses if you need a refresher on academic writing; these courses can be taken as the 6-credit hour English requirement under general education for associate and bachelor degrees.

Thanks for the great info. As far as a writing refresher, I have writing 10-15 page papers for the MS-ITM, Grad certificate, and PhD program for the past four years. I have gotten pretty good at making 10 pages out of nothing

I am looking at the MA in Humanities program. I was admitted to the CSU-DH program but never started it for some reason. Maybe this one will spark my interest a bit more. Maybe it was just timing.

    Question for Randell1234

    Randell,

Are you thinking of pursuing the MA in Humanities at the same time as you’re studying for your PhD?
That would be a huge undertaking -- IMO.

By the way, how goes your studies at NCU?

I’ve been seriously considering the NCU, DBA Program for some time now, and I would value your opinion of their business programs, and any other advice you may have to offer.

    Thank you,

It is a huge undertaking but I have been doing the UF certificate program, the PhD program, and teaching 15 credits in addition to my fulltime job. I see the humanities as something I “want” to do for me rather than something I “should” do for my career. I will take it slow and have fun.

As far as NCU, I have enjoyed all the classes except the first one with was all about APA writing style. The instructors have been very responsive, except one who was a jackass and did not respond for days and when he did he kept giving me the wrong information.

If I had it to do all over again I definitely would. If you have more specific questions let me know.
