I am trying to teach at a local public school that is need of math teachers.(in greensboro NC). Ive got a bio degree and have 11 credits of math. I need to get 13 more credits fast. Is it possible to enroll, take the classes and be done before Jan 15th or Feb 1st at the latest? I need to get an overall GPA of 2.5 also Thanks
Thirteen credit hours is four three-credit courses plus one one-credit course. The one-credit course can be completed at University of Pheonix Online (History of Mathematics). As to the four three-credit hour courses it would to know which mathematics courses (subject matter and title) you have already completed. The University of Illinois offers mathematics courses via distance education (see the Bachelor of Mathematical Science for an example of the courses available). Realistically, completing 13 credit hours by 1 February 2007 might not be possible due to scheduling and/or prerequisites. What grade level are you intending to teach?
Write to the Admissions departments of Charter Oak State College and Excelsior College and ask about using the GRE Subject Examination for Math for this purpose. (This assumes you already know a whole lot about math. If not, then I think you're sunk.) http://www.charteroak.edu http://www.excelsior.edu -=Steve=-
well, I have already taken calculus with analytical geometry 1 and 2 (4 credits) and Ive taken a statistics course also. i was hoping to take a calc 3, multivariabvle, and linear algebra and possibly another course, I am trying to teach high school algebra from the responses my best bet is CLEP and DANTES and TECEP and ECE are these easy to deal with? if i can set the time to study and prepare myself, buy whatever prep material i need can I do it lets say 1 course a week? maybe I can mix with unverisity of phoenix( i read not so good reviews elswhere from several posts)
sorry I meant i read complaints about university of pheonix being expensive and inflexible if someone has an emergency missing classes..
Calc III and up are not available in the CLEP/DANTES/ECE format. Athabasca University does offer them, and they let you challenge many classes for credit, so you could see if you could do that. http://www.athabascau.ca/course/ug_subject/list_im.php#m
http://www.ohiou.edu/independent/ccewords.htm Ohio U has course credit by exam for Calc I through IV, linear alg, diff eq.
thanks everybody for the tips, I checked out u of illonois and they are asking about 530/hr with my 11 to 13crd need its too much money for me, I looked at the athabasca website but couldnt find info on their fees. I think the best option is the ohio state its 69/hr and I might take a little more than a month but worth it( i amthinking of a carreer change and I need the math) I just said a month to see what was out there. I guessCLEP/DANTES/ECE format doesnt work with math courses like the one I am doing I wonder how hard the classes are but I found so many tutorial and textbooks for math even a free 24hr mathnerd tutor website
