I came across this website by accident, during a search for something entirely different on a search engine. www.degreetoday.com Any person can see that it is a scam of all scams. The phrasing of the website seems very similar to accelerateddegrees.com Check it out!!! You'll get a good laugh! Jay
Under the closed school section there is a legal disclaimer which states that the degrees awarded are for "Enterintainment [sic] Purposes Only." Wouldn't it be nice if all degree mills added this to their printed material? Hurting? Lonely? Need Direction? Uneducated? Call 1-900-GET-DEGREE For Entertainment Purposes Only!!! Russell
The FAQ makes interesting reading also, especially when compared to this thread. ------------------ Bill Gossett
The domain mentioned above was registered with this info: AEIT (DEGREETODAY-DOM) PO Box 3043 CDA, ID 83816 [Coeur d'Alene] Administrative Contact, Billing Contact: AEIT (G2192-OR)[email protected] [now there's an email address to inspire confidence] AEIT PO Box 3043 CDA, ID 83816 US 8003755033 fax: 123 123 1234 If that "AEIT" looks familiar, it might be because this was also used by the "Advanced Education Institute Trust" -- see http://distancelearn.about.com/library/faq/blfaqadvancedu.htm Degreetoday's FAQ includes a link to the same "Official Transcript Record Verification Service" used by AEIT. AEIT has changed the registration info for advancedu.org to now show that it is registered to "OTRVS" with the same address as the "Official Transcript Record Verification Service". ------------------ Kristin Evenson Hirst DistanceLearn.About.com
advancedu.org and degreetoday.com are very similar -- identical wording on the contact page http://www.accelerateddegrees.com/ which is the same as http://www.back2college.com/ seems very unlikeAEIT/advancedu.org/degreetoday.com Though the "accelerated degrees" name might arouse some suspicion, the site seems a quite legitimate and useful collection of resources for people who are going back to college. And Bill, I see what you mean about the FAQ making interesting reading -- chunks of it are copied (some twice) from the thread you mention. I must say I hesitate to mention the poor editing, HTML errors and broken links in degreetoday.com, lest I help them fix the site. ------------------ Kristin Evenson Hirst DistanceLearn.About.com
Now this is a legimate scam and certainly worth an FBI investigation. I see even medical and law degrees are available which is very, very scary. The only thing worthwhile on the site is the listing of closed schools as I had no idea St. Meinrad has closed. What a phony and farce.
Only the undergraduate college has closed: the seminary is still alive and well. Jon Porter ---------- native Hoosier
They ask for complete name, social security number, date of birth, credit card information, and current address. All the information necessary for the perfect identity theft.
And all of that information appears to be lifted from another site -- closedcollege.com -- which offers "a replacement diploma and transcripts" that "are authentic and are suitable for framing" (but according to the legal disclaimer, these authentic-appearing documents are "NOVELTY AND ENTERINTAINMENT [sic] PURPOSES ONLY"). ------------------ Kristin Evenson Hirst DistanceLearn.About.com
Mr. Clifton says he learned from this fake school site the useful information that St. Meinrad had closed. Why should a fake school tell the truth about anything. St. Meinrad is open and doing fine, as best I can tell (http://www.saintmeinrad.edu/), and I hadn't known, until just looking at their website, that in addition to their degree programs, they sell caskets. Cradle to grave, one might say.
Here are a couple more funny ones. The first sounds familiar, but doesn't show up in the degreeinfo search: INTERNATIONAL THEOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY (high school through D.Div and JD-Theologian) http://www.education-1.net Applied Learning Evaluation Center, BA through Ph.D via a homely web sites http://www.aleconline.org
Bill, If you have a desire to become an ordained shaman, then ITU is the place for you. Primal religious practices seem to be experiencing somewhat of a revival. Russell
I was attracted to the title of JD-Theologian, but now you've got me interested in a multidisciplinary program. I like the sound of JD-Shaman.
They don't have time for it Kristin, they're too busy re-registering the domains of all of their scams so they don't trace back. Add abcdegree to the list. And for the record, the Washington, DC address used in the advancedu domain registration is Mailboxes, Etc. #2092. ------------------ Bill Gossett
