The accrediting association that oversees American InterContinental University has decided to keep the for-profit institution on probationary status for another year, until December 2007. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which had placed the university on probation last December, decided on the extension at its annual meeting, which ended on Tuesday, in Kissimmee, Fla.

George P. Miller III, the university's chief executive officer, said in a written statement, "We are pleased with the recognition of the important steps we have taken in the past 12 months and our commitment to clear and continuous improvement." He said the steps included a strengthening of the university's administration, more faculty involvement in decision-making, and strengthening of respect for the university's mission and integrity statements.

I thought American InterContinental University were on probation since 2004. Maybe I am wrong.
