    Hello Everyone,
My name is Gary and this is my first time posting although I have been following your board for some time. I am currently unemployed having been laid off from my job at an automotive supplier. My background is in automotive design ( interior trim ) my career took me into a management path which led me away from being a hands on cad designer. I feel that I could be successful as an engineer however; I do not have a BSME. The engineering job postings that I have seen require either a BSME or a Technical Degree. I am not real strong in math and due to my age don’t have a lot of time to pursue a BSME. Are there any online degree programs that would offer a BS in a technical discipline (automotive) and would allow work experience credits? I have a handicapped son to care for and money is very tight. I am hoping to use my 25 years in automotive design and management to draw upon. Your help would be appreciated.

    Gary,

According to what you are saying. I believe that Thomas Edison State College fits your need. TESC offers Bachelor of Science in Applied Science & Technology; and specialize in Mechanical Engineering Technology

Most of the credits can be earned from Career Certification (i.e: Microsoft Certifieds System Engineer), CLEP, DANES, FEMA (FEMA courses), PLA (Prior Learning Assesment (Life experience to college credit). Most of people have done this way to avoid high tuition and eliminate their times as well.

Good Luck...let us know what is your decission.

    Ted,

I believe these schools are too expensive for Gary. Only TESC fits in his situation.
