    Hi,

I´m new in this forum, I´ve been lurking for some time, but now I have a question.

I´d be glad if anyone could help here.

I´m interested in finishing my Bachelors of Art in History through a DL college (I have more than 100 credits hours with me).

I need some sugestion of online colleges that have History as a major, but:

    1) The college/university must be RA accredited.

    2) The college/university must be a B&M school that happens to have a online program.

    3) The major must be History, not something like "Bachelor of General Studies with a concentration in History".

I know that two of the "Big three" (Excelsior and TESC) have the program I want, but I´d like to know some other options, Brick&Mortar schools if possible.

You're going to face a transfer credit problem at most schools. There is a generally accepted practice of limiting transfer credit to no more than 75% and you're already over 75%. In fact, that's a SACS accreditation requirement.

This is the single issue that makes the Big 3 - The Big Three. They accept in transfer of 100% of a degree program.

You can expect that most B&M and DL programs you find will require 30 or more hours be taken in their own courses.

Thanks people, for all the information.

About the transfer fo credits, I´m aware that most B&M schools demand that you take at least 30 credits in their institution.
SUNY Empire State College (one of the schools I´m considering...) demands so.

But I don´t think that´s really a problem. It ´s a good opportunity to improve my GPA and improve my writing english (I´m from Brazil, my Toefl score is very high - CBT 293 - but is always good to keep learning your second language.)

I'd be careful about characterizing Empire State College as a B&M school if that is an externally imposed requirement.

    Why?

    Aren´t they part of SUNY?

    SUNY is B&M, right?

SUNY consists of sixty-four different academic institutions all of which are B&M EXCEPT for Empire State College. Empire is the non-traditional institution within the SUNY system.

Take a look at their website: www.esc.edu

In their site they show a lot locations where you can attend classes ou discussion groups.

I assumed that locations were Empire State College offices or something.

Well, anyway...At least SUNY is mostly B&M. So I think Empire State still have some advantage to totally online schools.

Correct if I am wrong, but I can put in my resume something like this:

"Bachelors of Art in Historical Studies - SUNY - Empire State College"

I think the SUNY name it is more renown than Excelsior College, for example.

    What do you think?

I'm not sure that classes are offered at those sites, but someone else may be able to chime in on this. Yes, you can list an Empire degree as SUNY - Empire State College. Most people outside of New York would not know the difference.

    Ted,

Strike Bemidji State from the list. While they offer several history courses by correspondence, the BA history isn't available through DL. As a matter of fact they used to offer a social science degree through extended learning which could include history, but I don't see that offered any longer.

CSUStanislaus probably should be removed from the list as well. It offers a classroom-based BA in History at its remote site in Stockton CA, and perhaps some individual online classes. But there doesn't seem to be a truly DL history degree available at this time.
