Does anyone know of a US or foreign based PhD program in Business Law by distance learning?

    Bear's Guide

If I am not mistaken, I believe I found a couple schools in Bear's Guide to Distance Learning Degrees (think that's the name) but I loaned my book to my friend, she is on vacation for the holidays, and I can't seem to contact her to find out if there are any PhD or Doctorates in Business Law anywhere. Yikes...If anyone has the book can you confirm or deny whether there is such a degree?

    Many thanks, as always.

Bears' Guide indicates the existence of a dissertation-only PhD in Business Law on offer from Central Queensland University www.cqu.edu.au .

No, but I recently stumbled into this stand-alone LLM in International Commercial Law that might be interesting to you:

    http://northumbria.ac.uk/sd/academic/law/llm/

There are also other DL LLMs at Northumbria and none require the LLB (or JD).

I am a graduate of the LLM that Dave mentioned.

I would also like to add that the school of law at Northumbria offers a PhD (research based). They suggest that they would be flexible in terms of attendance requirements.

They have, I think, in excess of 80 full time academic staff so I'm guessing they can probably meet your needs in terms of supervision.

I should also mention University of Aberdeen. This is a well ranked school and from reading their website I have the impression that their PhD is available fully by distance learning. I have not confirmed that with them but if you read the following it strongly suggests that it is doable.

    Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The PhD is the highest degree awarded for research by the University. The PhD is awarded on the basis of a thesis on a chosen topic. As a PhD student you will normally spend 36 months in Aberdeen, but it is possible to vary this if you need to spend time away from Aberdeen in order to carry out research for your thesis. A full-time student must, however, spend a minimum of six months in residence in Aberdeen. It is also possible to do a PhD by part-time study, over six years. The thesis should not exceed 100,000 words. A PhD thesis is expected to make a significant original contribution to knowledge.

and this part from the faq:

Q16 Can I study for a research degree by distance-learning?
Yes, but full-time research students must spend a minimum period of residence in Aberdeen (for PhD and MPhil students, this is six months; for LLM students, it is three months). An application for permission to study away from Aberdeen must be made. The minimum period of residence in Aberdeen does not apply to part-time students. The Core Skills for Research Students course is available by distance learning for students who are studying away from Aberdeen.
