Earning a degree without taking any big "make it or break it" final exams?

I want to earn a degree, but i'm a horrible test taker. In high school, i'd ace everything but just bomb the big midterms and final exams which really hurt me. Unless it's an open book exam, I have no chance.

I know of some DETC accredited schools which offer degree programs with courses where you attend the courses, do assignments, do term papers, projects, etc. but there are NO final exams. I want a degree from a regionally accredited institution though.

Are there any RA schools which offer classes where you take the course, are an active participant in the course, do assignments, projects, term papers, etc. etc. and your grades are 100% based on that, as opposed to a "make it or break it" midterm and final exam?

    Thanks!

I would also like to add, I currently have 15 FEMA credits that I obtained credit from through FCC... oh how I love those FEMA courses! Wish I could obtain a whole degree out of them!

You should check out Touro University International. They are regionally accredited and the classes do not require any tests.

Although expensive (USD440.00 per credit hour), Champlain College offers accelerated courses (7-week) which in my experience, thus far, grade based on discussion group participation, written assignments, open-book quizzes (on-line), and open-book final exams (on-line, take home).

CRJ-120, CRJ-121, NET-120, FOR-100 and the 1-credit hour courses all meet your criteria. I have taken these courses.

There are many courses at American Public University System (USD250.00 per credit hour includes textbooks)that are graded soley on written assignments and written exams (open-book, take home). EN101, ENGL102, ENGL120, PHIL277, PSYC133, PSYC134, for example. Other courses require a protored final exam.

    Thanks everyone!

Does anyone know of anymore RA schools like the ones mentioned above which don't require any proctored final exams or anything?

  9. embry-riddle aeronautical university has non-proctored exams, and plenty of time to look up each answer. my last exam was 18 questions and i had 2 hours and it was multiple choice! it was nuts. my grades were 2 tests and a paper, not all are like this but at least there is no proctor on any classes.

Sure, Ellis College of New York Institute of Technology dosn't require any proctored tests, is regionally acreddited through NYIT, and there are no large midterm or final tests. Many classes don't even contain tests or quizzes... Mostly just project work and if there is a test or quiz, its completely open book... Enjoy!

You could try Northcentral University (NCU). Most courses do not have exams but there is a significant amount of writing involved.

I'm in the MBA program at Bellevue and 3 out of the 6 courses that I've taken required closed book proctored comprehensive final exams. I'm just pointing out that you may encounter courses with midterms, finals, or both.

Kaplan does not require proctored exams. I know two people that have taken courses through them. Tests are administered online in your home, open book, but are timed.

Penn Foster College is NA but well over 100 of their courses have been ACE evaluated and will transfer into most RA schools. Their course exams are unproctored. There is one proctored exam per semester that covers the material of each class in the semester. Those exams are proctored, open book. The proctor can be almost anyone within reason, but DON'T mistake this with being easy.

That is correct but, it is cheaper to take online courses through Ellis College of NYIT rather than NYIT at $700 per credit hour in NYC or Long Island...
