I am requesting information from graduates of Capella's doctoral program in Human Services (Criminal Justice specialization). Specifically, I am interested in the number of graduates who obtained tenure track teaching positions as a direct result of the degree program. Was name recognition a point of conetention with hiring authorities? I am contemplating a career move and aspire to a teaching position at a small university or community college. I would hate to expend vast resources and funds to pursue a second class (in the eyes of a hiring board) degree. I am also seeking opinions on a comparison between Capella and Walden University. Does the academic view these universities differently? I know Walden has a longer history and receives less negative attention on DL forums.

Friend, this forum isn't a good place to seek honest opinions regarding Capella. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to many CU haters here. If, however, you are wanting glowing/loving opinions regarding the Big 3 (though no one can tell me exactly why they are "Big") this is a good place since the graduates of the same tend to populate the group.

uh. . . seems like this would have been the perfect opportunity for YOU to provide "glowing/loving opinions" regarding Capella if you have some.

My advice is to contact the community colleges and universities at which you would like to teach and ask their opinions regarding Capella University and/or Walden University. Also, contact Capella University and Walden University and request a list of schools where their graduates are teaching - not the student names, just the school names.

If you already hold a graduate degree at the masters level, you might meet the 18-credit hour requirement in a teachable subject.

There are some people on this forum who rail against any degree that was not earned on-campus at a Tier 1 regionally accredited school. Go figure!

There is indeed bias in favour of and against several schools in these forums. As with all advice, it is free and everyone has an opinion; you ultimately have to do that which is best for you.

Friend, I keep my opinion to myself. Any positive comment I would/could make would be attacked by the usual cast of characters.

So instead you allow those who disagree with you to silence you?

Nope - I am just not interested in expending the time (or energy) in another pissing match with the same old dreary characters. Kind of like yesterdays battle where one bonehead professes that another is "stalking" him. Poor dumbass has no clue.

I don't know if you are new or some regular posting as someone new (Jeff La Marca?). For what its worth, I recommend that you look at previous threads on this subject (which there are plenty).
As for student satisfaction from Capella grads check:

    http://www.rateitall.com/i-28324-capella-university.aspx

Most of the negative attention/hatred in this forum comes from a fella by the name of Jeff La Marca who posts as Mothermary, Bill, Capellastinks, Neils111 and many other aliases in other discussion boards.

Capella and Walden are both RA online schools and they will be accepted by people who are open minded about virtual schools.
Those who are not will reject candidates from Capella, Walden, NCU, TUI and any grad from a distance learning school.

    Here's a suggestion. . .
    Google this:
    faculty "walden university" "criminal justice"

You'll have to do some sifting, but you will find a some Walden faculty. E-mail them and pick their brains.

Not that this has anything to do with the original poster's question, especially since none of the so-called Big 3 have doctoral programs, but the Big 3 are the only three regionally accredited U.S. schools that have no residency requirement, i.e., that allow 100% of credits to be from transfer, assessment, credit bearing examinations like CLEP, and so forth. Admittedly, none of them are big in student population compared with marketing-driven schools like Capella, Phoenix, AIU, and the like, so maybe it's not a great phrase, but at the same time "three regionally accredited U.S. schools that have no residency requirement" would be really cumbersome for us Big 3 shills to have to throw around all the time.

...it might be worth adding "site:.edu" to the search string.

For what it is worth - I had no issues as a Capella PhD candidate teaching at a Community College - and we recently hired an Academic Dean who just earned her EdD from Capella.

    Cough, hack......

Have you read your own postings?!? Say what you want (and more power to ya, I guess  ), but "unopinionated" hardly applies.

Glad you finally diagnosed the target of your OCD. That is always a good start to any successful 10 step program.

It isn't a matter of what I or anyone else want, and I was taking a friendly dig. Offer away, and knock yerself out, GLI - everyone has a right to an opinion (or to ignore opinions). Trust me, not attacking or criticizing, and I'm not one to get worked up about issues on a discussion board.

But you did put yourself in the spotlight when you started jumping into every for-profit thread that appears by coming out swinging, so using the phrase "I keep my opinion to myself" tickled my funny bone.

    Have a great evening.

If you are familiar with www.zoominfo.com

and have access to an account with them, it is very handy for finding that sort of info. Some sifting required for false positives, but extremely powerful.
