Wish me luck: Grad School Well, it was about a year ago this time I was enrolling at Southwestern College to get a BSCJ. Man time flies when you’re having fun. I think I’ve finally picked a major and school after literally months of agonizing over the choice. I think I’m going with Troy University Online Master of Science in Criminal Justice instead of American Public University. I am doing so because of the following reasons: 1.) I would like to teach as an adjunct in CJ and though APUS is a RA school, Troy is better known in the academic world and I likely will never be asked to explain my degree or answer questions about my school. 2.) Troy is offering a 10 class MS vs. APUS 12 classes, which puts Troy about $1,000 cheaper than APUS, but money isn’t as much of a factor as time. 3.) I decided to go with a MSCJ instead of an MPA or MBA because honestly, I love the subject matter of a CJ degree and that is where my hear lies. 4.) Troy is going to the New Orleans Bowl this year………joking……….. APUS had curriculum flexibility going for it, but that’s about it. Troy has midterms and finals to be taken at testing centers unlike APUS, but APUS has a comprehensive exam at the end. I am an official graduate on 12/15 and will apply to Troy on 12/16 to start in Jan. I have just ordered the MAT testing prep guides, and will begin to consume them the instant they arrive. How is the MAT? So wish me luck.
Do it to it, buddy! I'm in my first throws of Grad school as well, and still a little overwhelmed that I actually got there. You'll do great, and congrats! Dave
friendorfoe, Congratulation on your final decission! You'll have a good experience with Troy University; trust me, I earned my ungraduated degree from Troy via distance learning. Besides, Troy University is better for you than APUS because you live in Tejas. And Troy University is better and well known in southern region. When you try to get a job as teaching; it shouldn't be a problem because Texas' schools and Troy University are accredited by the same body. Good Luck!!!!
Re: Wish me luck: Grad School I know schools where the MAT is just a requirement, the score is only for their research. MAT is not easy for some so good luck
I have the choice of GMAT, GRE or MAT.........of the 3 I was told the MAT was less math intensive. So since that is my weak spot, the MAT sounds like a winner. Any suggestions?
And note that I don't usually shout TAKE THE MAT! I've taken both the MAT and the GRE. The MAT had no math, and I was in and out with a high score in thirty-five minutes. And it's cheaper! It's a no brainer, take the MAT! -=Steve=-
Hey friendorfoe! Congratulations on coming in for a landing with this undergraduate degree - so cool. Not even a day off, huh? I thought I suggested taking a break over the holidays....while I finish my semester next week, and am here on degreeforum already, wondering what to do next. Isn't it fun? Great work and sounds like you made a good decision. Troy has so many, many programs which I know must appeal to you. Have fun!
ooops, I mean....here I am on degreeinfo.com's great FORUM! Friendorfoe, I've missed hearing your progress reports while I've been grinding away at my program offline. This is the season for looking up and taking stock. You go!
Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Slight snag though I am not an "official" graduate until Dec. 15th..........but the deadline for Jan. admission at Troy was the 8th or something. So it looks like I begin at Troy in March. That's cool though because I'm going to fill my time at LSU getting a Certificate in Business Communication.........which should look very nice next to my Rutgers Certificate in Business Management which I will get sometime in 2007 in order to get some "business" creds under my belt and on my resume.
