Anyone from Texas taking Walden courses online?

As I have said in other threads, I am considering taking courses online from Walden to obtain my master's and phd in counseling psychology. Is there anyone here from Texas who is doing the same thing? If so, how has your experience been with them? I was looking at the requirements for licensure as a psychologist in Texas, and one of the degree requirements is, of course, a dissertation. But the rules state the dissertation course cannot be worth any more than 12 credits. As I was looking at Walden's degree program I noticed the dissertation course is worth 27 credits. Does this mean that I would not be eligible to be licensed in Texas because there are too many course credits devoted to the dissertation? On the Walden website, it does say that the counseling and clinical phd programs prepare you for licensure, but of course every state has its own rules for licensure. If there is anyone here who is in this particular program at Walden and you are from Texas, and you are planning on becoming licensed, I would really appreciate your responses to this post. :)

I would be highly surprised if this were so. Could you please show a link?

It appears that you are getting very anxious without cause. Why don't you contact the Texas Board of Licensure in order to clarify the issue of your concern as well as contact Walden U. and speaking with the Chair of the Psychology department to bring closure to your question. I am quite certain that this issue will be readily explained. This is a more realistic and workable approach than waiting for the very unlikely possibility that someone from Texas who is attending Walden's Psychology doctoral program will be a poster on this board and able to answer you question.

You may want to look into whether the Walden 'credits' are quarter credits (which I think they are) or semester credits/hours. There would be a difference I think.

This is a very straightforward situation. All that has to be done is for the poster to contact the Texas Bd. Of Psychology Licensure and put this matter to rest! By asking us to speculate regarding our interpretations of the statutes is really unnecessary and may not provide the correct interpretation.

You sound like a bitter old man. Th poster is simply asking for an opinion. Can we cut him/her some slack?

An old bitter man? Now in addition to your personality assessment, for which you appear quite capable of making (RIGHT!) what have you to offer the poster in terms of resolving her issue? NOTHING!

This poster has asked us in previous posts to decide which masters degree program in Psychology she should take as well as other questions that only she can decide upon. In this case, instead of taking the initiative and expeditiously resolving this issue she once again is depending on other posters to answer a question which none of us knows for cetain. It is understandable if a poster has made a concerted effort to resolve their issues by going through the appropriate channels and if unsuccessful asking us for assistance and opinions. However, this has not been the case for this poster and if she/he is intending to attend a doctoral program in Psychology it is a good time to start taking the initiative and responsbility to do his/her own research and inquiries prior to asking others to doing it for them. Just my impression.

Re: Re:Anyone from Texas taking Walden courses online?

Interesting. So the State of Texas does require that the doctorate have only 12 semester hours of dissertation credit out of the 90 semester hours of doctoral studies. Quite often, the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) has a shorter (and more applied) dissertation than the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychology. The other way of resolving it would be to ask the Texas State Board of Examiners for Psychologists whether what they're really looking for is 78 semester hours of coursework credits, and, if so, just do extra coursework credits above and beyond what the university requires.

I will check, but now that I think about it, that does seem like the logical assumption. And if that is the case, Walden more than covers the number of credits required. The phd program is 156 credits, 27 of which are dissertation credits. Thanks for replying.:)

I know I'm a few years behind (LOL), but wanted to point out that item's 1, 2, and 3, are various paths to qualifying. They are not in addition to one another. So you can satisfy the requirement under 1 (if before the date), under 2, or under 3.

I get very suspicious when newbies join this board just to necromance seven year old threads.

Lay your suspicion to rest; no harm meant in reviving an old thread. Seven year old threads still provide a legitimate source of information to those (like me) who may find it lingering in their google-searches and be glad more (applicable) information is still being added to it. Perhaps a moderator might be glad of this as well? Didn't mean to raise suspicions, I'm sorry, I wanted to help.
