Would a Masters and 18 graduate hours in English qualify someone to teach any undergrad course-work that had an "English" prefix? For example could they teach Lit courses and Comp courses?

The answer may seem obvious and maybe I'm being a bit dense. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Technically, yes - it'd meet the minimum requirements for such things as Freshman comp or soph. lit classes. The challenge for getting a gig teaching English without the MA or PhD is that a lot of people have an MA in English and many schools use grad assistants for exactly those classes.

Your idea might work for community college teaching and, if you like the field, don't forget remedial level courses - very few people want to teach those.

Not sure if a master's with 18 hours in English would qualify one to teach English history. :D

Ted, I think I am a little dense...I'm sitting here trying to think of a snappy rejoinder...and nothing is happening.

Thanks for the input, Coach. The remedials are an idea for the small technical colleges here in Georgia.

I'm still in that fear of what may happen to Touro phase and I'm looking around at other masters programs, that are not necessarily business related.
