Regis and Streaming Video Lectures

I've been looking at Regis' MBA favorably because they offer streaming video lectures. I would appreciate comments from Regis students or grads as to the quality and effectiveness of this aspect of that program. For that matter I'd appreciate any other details about your experience at Regis.

Other than Auburn, Colorado State and Northern Alabama, is anyone aware of other programs which use taped or streaming lectures extensively?

Also, I'm considering UMASS-Amherst. I'd be interested in the workings of that program as well.

 

I thought the lectures on DVD were helpful. It was nice to be able to get some visual examples to go along with the lessons. I really liked the Regis MBA program

 

I thought that the lectures were a nice supplement to the text. They were more like a seminar than being equivalent to being in a classroom listening to a lecture. The videos usually include a panel of high-level executives from various areas and industries.

I usually watched the lectures while reading the text or doing some other form of multitasking, as I didn't like to sit still for that long.

However, the co-worker that introduced me to Regis never watched his lectures at all and got straight As. But he had a lot of experience and his wife did her MBA on-ground at Regis, so he may not have needed the exposure.

All but two of my instructors were absolutely top-notch and I am still in contact with three of them. They encouraged me to start teaching, which I love.

Thanks for the response folks. Regis sounds very good. The faculty sounds top notch, especially to take such an interest in individual students.

 

Other schools with streaming

I have been looking as well--Jones Internatinal and Ellis College both have streaming lectures.

Have you decided on Regis? I like how so many of the courses are specialized to the degree--7 as opposed to 3 with Walden's MBA.

I completed the MBA through Regis in 1992 via DL. For the first couple of classes I watched the videos religiously. I took me that long to realize that my assignments had nothing to do with the content of the videos. I stopped watching them and still graduated with a 3.9 GPA.

Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to have been able to watch them all. They were extremely well-done and I'm sure I would have learned much more. But honestly, the Regis program is very rigorous and consumes an enormous amount of time. Being able to cut out unnecessary video watching saved a lot of much-needed time each week.

 

Hi, no I decided to stay with the MSM at Salve Regina University. It is fairly cheap and pretty flexible.

Ultimately I didn't want to commit to a more expensive program since I'm limited to $6000 tuition reimbursement per year. I would have been able to complete only three courses per year at Regis or UMass.

I agree with you on the courses at Regis, they're pretty concentrated and I forgot how much I liked financial type courses until this semester with my Finance course. I figure when I'm done with SRU I'll either go for a certificate in finance or tax at UC-Colorado Springs, Northcentral or Bentley, if I don't go for something completely different and fun such as a history degree.

I also looked seriously at Walden but again the $$$$.

As an aside, on the video thing. I thought it sounded like a good thing, I got some videos from Northern Alabama and Liberty (no longer offer videos), and while the instructors seemed great, I nearly always fell asleep after about 15 minutes of viewing. I'm finding the books hold my attention better. Good luck whatever you do.
