As most of you are aware, I was enrolled in Charles Sturt University’s Doctor of Public Policy program. I really like the course coordinator; however, navigating through the university system is closely akin to pulling a wisdom tooth. Questions take forever to be answered, finding the correct people responsible for a particular course is extremely difficult, while simply getting student accounts to issue an enrollment letter is more difficult than getting a cat to take a bath. Not only this, but the program is geared towards people who are law enforcement practitioners or who would like to pursue a career in law enforcement/police agencies. For these reasons, I ended up withdrawing from the program. I am now diligently searching for another.

Whereas I do not mind taking courses, since I like research so much, I prefer earning my doctorate degree from a foreign institution through research methods. I am no longer devoted to a particular area of study but family obligations restrict me from traveling to any of these B&M Foreign Institutions. I find, though, that I do like to study Leadership, Ethics, Corporate Governance, Public Policy (although I see no career in this area living here in Florida), Public Administration, Social Science or any other similarly related area of study. My choice would depend on length of time of study and geographic location where program is offered. I am interested in DL Programs.

I would attend a US institution; however, I have no interest in entry level examinations (GRE, GMAT, etc), no interest in being placed on a waiting list and no interest in being in a program that takes 90 years to complete. For financial aid reasons, I need a program that I can begin in January or shortly thereafter. If there are any ideas or opinions related to my areas of interest, please feel free to let me know. By the way, I do have Bears Guide to Distance Learning and Bear’s Guide to College Degrees by Mail & Internet.

    Many Thanks, as usual…..

    Lady Executive,
Walden or Capella if money is not a problem. However a research only degree will keep you offshore. I've heard that UNISA requires some serious navigation skills.

Maybe other board members who have gone the UNISA route will chime in.

    Maybe try IACI www.iaci-canada.com

    UNISA

The only problem I have with UNISA is that I cannot get Financial Aid to pay for any of their programs. I had no problem getting Financial Aid to pay for my classes at Charles Sturt University, however, FAFSA does not endorse any African Institutes of Higher Education.

Thanks Pal, I appreciate your suggestions.

Cape Town and Stellenbosch are on the Title IV list. However, there was a recent change in law preventing Title IV funding from applying to distance programs at foreign universities, so you may be out of luck anyway.

    Cape Town

Cape Town and Stellenbosh as names of Universities or names of Cities? Just Curious. Oh, I heard about the new law. I figured that I'd be done or nearly done before the law is effected anyways. Even if it comes into effect and is changed on the books before I am completed, the aid I get would give me a good enough start where I'd be able to move forward on my own two financially speaking - feet.

Thanks Steve for your input. Look forward to your resonse.

    :) Universities:

Bear in mind that Stellenbosch is primarily an Afrikaans speaking university and that Cape Town may well be the most exclusive university in South Africa. But good luck!
