All vets eligble or those with currenet GI bill benefits?

Does this progam apply to all vets or just those who are currently eligible for GI bill benefits? For example a veteran who got out in 1977 vs. 1997? Do you need to be in a program working for a degree, or can you take these tests "free-standing" (CLEP/DSS)
I went to the VA site but it is not specific on these questions. Thanks in advance for any response)

It looks to me like it applies to all veterans, as long as you're elibigle for VA benefits (can prove you were in the military, and received anything other than a dishonorable or bad conduct discharge).

I plan to contact the VA for further clarification on Monday. If this is true, I'm going to take the last 30 credit hours I need for a BA via CLEP and DANTES. That's $2,400 worth of tests I can essentially take for free!

You have to be eligible for education benefits under one of the chapters. Some of us fell between the cracks of three different programs...

I'm not really up on my VA lingo, so I'm not sure what this means.

When I was in the Navy, there was no GI Bill, only VEAP...a worthless education program that the military dumped shortly after I returned to civilian life. Basically, for every dollar the service member had deducted from their pay, Uncle Sam kicked in two dollars. I figured I had a total of $7,000 coming to me when I was discharged. I enrolled in broadcasting school, and then applied to get my $7,000 for tuition and other expenses. I got a letter from the VA telling me I was eligible for $800. WTF? I called the local VA and asked why I wasn't getting my money. "Well," said the snot-nosed lieutenant "VEAP stands for Veterans Education ASSISTANCE Program. It merely assists you with expenses. It doesn't pay for everything." I told him to send me all of the money I had kicked into the program...about $1,800...more or less.

I certainly hope I'm eligible for reimbursement of CLEP expenses. The way I see it, the goverment still has about $5,000 of my money.

    :D

As I read it, you are eligible if you had VEAP eligibility.

My period was between those even and I didn't even get VEAP. :(
