Well, I am not sure if I make the right decision or not; but this is what I am going to do. I did a little research on Northcentral University about their credibility, accreditation, and reputation. Also, I spoke to their academic advisor for several times on the phone. I want to receive full academic tuition from the Department of Veteran Affair; therefore, two classes per term is a perfect match for me. Most of other institutions require three classes; but I cannot deal with three classes with a full-time job. So, those institutions don’t really match my criteria. Besides, they don’t require Proctor for exams for graduated levels. I like researching and writing papers better than sitting exams. I’ll be working on my MBA in Management of Engineering & Technology; then continue on the Ph.D – Business Administration – Management. I’ll try to complete these two degrees in three years. I like the fact that the tuition for Veteran is not bad at all, it is only $284.00 per credit. Do you think I make a right decision? Any input is really appreciated! Thanks in advanced!!!!!!!!! S/F, Henry
If you bear in mind that there are no guarrantees in life - I'd say "yes". Welcome aboard. There's a yahoo group fro NCU students - lots of good info - and some occasional sniveling.
NCU is not the only DL school that permits you to have only two classes and be considered full time. Also it is not the only school that uses other methods than proctored exams.
The only other school I know is Touro International University; which I don't like the name, besides...it is not really a part of Touro College. What are other schools? Thanks...
There is Letourneau University, Bellevue, Keller, Capella University, American Intercontinental University, Walden University, University of Phoenix, Golden Gate University, Florida Metropolitan University, Strayer University, Liberty University, Colorado Technical University Online, Penn State Online... As you can see, there are many. These are just a few.
Blackbird is quite right - there's Nova Southeastern for example - but they have no military discount
I think you made a great choice!!! Congratulations! My friend is currently finishing up her PhD from NCU and loves it. She is currently a VP of finance, and is also interviewing for a CEO position within her company. Take care, Abner
Yeah, I like the Nova Southeastern better than Northcentral; however, price is double.. Besides, I need money for my investment property in Dallas.
If you are in Texas, you might want to look at LeTourneau University's Online MBA. Their main campus is in Longview and they have satilite locations also. Go to http://www.letu.edu/opencms/opencms/future-students/SGPS/accelonline/overview.html
"...I’ll be working on my MBA in Management of Engineering & Technology; then continue on the Ph.D – Business Administration – Management. I’ll try to complete these two degrees in three years..." I thing you made a solid decision given your criteria. However, completing both the MBA and the Ph.D. in 3 years seems a little ambitious. Did the NCU advisor think this was realistic?
As a point of clarification, Touro University International (TUI) has been described on the Touro College (TC) website as a branch campus of Touro College. Furthermore, TUI describes itself as a branch campus of TC. Dave
Henry, I think you should shop for the MBA and PhD separately. They both are big and totally separate decisions. There are zillions of online MBA programs out there with proven track records and that cater to vets. Get into the best one that meets your needs. Once you finish the MBA, then look for the best PhD program you can be admitted to. In the future, that might be NCU, Touro or other programs that are growing steadily in reputation. Dave P.S. Did you talk to Touro about their MBA and/or PhD?
Re: Re: NCU - I Think, Therefore I Am! Any Advice? First of all, I want to thank everyone with your inputs. After I read all responses; then I NCU on the holding list. Dave, I think you are right; I'll save NCU for Ph.D program. After some more research, then I found several schools are interesting. For example. Texas A&M (Commerce): AACSB accredited; instate tuition is way cheaper than other schools (I don't live in Texas anymore, but have state driver license and own a property there) Grand Canyon University: AACSP Accredited; tuition is not bad for Military Northcentral University: ACBSP Candidate; (Save it for Ph.D once they are accredited by ACBSP). Chradron State College: ACBSP accredited. One that I want to have my three different degrees from three different schools. Therefore, I don't really want to go to NCU for MBA. Right now I am put Texas A&M on the top of my list...then make decission later. Once again, thanks everybody for your advices.
