Dear raristud2, They don't have to be accredited. It's primary campus is in Italy. They graduate 2500 students per year. The President, Marco Grappeggia is a graduate of Columbia University. http://www.nyuniversity.net/it/index.htm http://www.nyuniversity.net/fr/html/indexita.htm http://www.nyuniversity.net/en/index2.htm
Oh, please. This thing screams mill. Check out the accreditation page: "Accreditation can be confusing and is often a misunderstood matter. Accreditation rules are different for each State and Nation." I have seen that sort of disclaimer many times before, and never have I seen it on the web site of a school that wasn't a mill. Oh, and then there's the page where they sell honorary doctorates: "The Yorker International University does remind that this degree is granted for solely merits, therefore, does not require any type of study, For more information, do inquire directly with The Yorker International University bureau. Remember to attach a brief written presentation to your candidature with your curriculum." What nonsense. -=Steve=-
Just for kicks, I Googled the US locations of The Yorker International University. Results follow: Head Office: 3213 West Main, Suite 310, Rapid City SD. This is the address for UPS Store #1884. "Suite 310" is presumably a box number. World Wide Representative: 20 W. 20th, 2nd Floor, New York NY. The best known facility at this address seems to be Club 20, which reportedly offers "anywere from 14-20 Non Nude Male Exotic Dancers who perform in a professional Chippendale like setting." In fairness, the rest of the building seems to house a wide variety of offices. USA Location: 12700 Biscayne Blvd., Suite 400, Miami FL. Apparently Yorker International University shares a physical address and fax number with www.e-libro.net, a Spanish-language book distributor. Institute of Hypnosis, Infaith Institute Albert University, 2602 S. Minnesota Ave., Suite 105, Sioux Falls SD. Phone number links to Albert University. Albert University is explicitly listed as an unaccredited or substandard degree supplier by the states of Oregon, Maine, Michigan, and Texas.
I just contacted oregon. The Yorker International University is not recognized by chea and the US department of education. Forget about the organization. If you list The Yorker International University in your job application, you may get fired. You may also land in prision.
If Yorker is legally authorized to issue degrees, but lacks recognized accreditation, then their degrees could still be legal for use in Oregon (and probably other jurisdictions as well). However, you would have to add a legal disclaimer stating that the degree was unaccredited. On the other hand, if Yorker has not been granted legal degree-granting authority by any state or national government, then the status of its degrees would be much shakier. In this case, use of Yorker degrees could be illegal in Oregon (and probably other jurisdictions), and subject to criminal penalties. It is not clear that Yorker has any legal degree-granting authority anywhere.
Yorker Accreditation Yorker proudly boasts accreditation from the Government Accreditation Association of Delaware. Oddly, this agency is not located in Delaware, but at: # 106 Suite 376, 4200 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington DC 20016 Googling this organization returns only a handful of hits. Apparently the same agency has also accredited Alfred University (which, as noted previously, is connected to Yorker) and the United States University of Central Study. The mailing address of the Government Accreditation Association of Delaware appears to be the same as UPS Store #0057 (formerly Mail Boxes Etc).
Thank you for your reply caldog The Oregon Office of Degree Authorization informed me that a degree from Yorker International University is illegal for use in Oregon. I contacted the New York State Education Department. Yorker lists New York as an office location. If they have an office location in new york, they must have authorization to grant degrees in the state. The Office of College and University Evaluation in New York is not familiar with Yorker. They will contact me when they conclude their research.
Re: Yorker Accreditation Sorry, I meant to say "Albert University" (not to be confused with the legitimate "Alfred University").
