Is this a degree mill? I recieved an e-mail from them in the bulk mail folder and was told they offer life-experience degrees! They are not regionally or nationally accredited. They have a few accrediting bodies I am less familiar on. I think life experience degrees are mavericks created by mills.
Almeda University Belford University Ashwood University Suffield University Redding University Rochville University Breyer State University Glendale University ... All Diploma mills. Every "Life Experience" degree is a fake. Anyone holding one of these degrees is a fraud who deserves to be exposed, and to be ousted from their job if that job was gained on the basis of that phony degree.
What are actions taken against mills? I heard the FBI are investigating on degree mills and their credibility. An unaccredited school may be condoned however mills would certainly not be. I have a question. If a John Doe university is set with entirely an online program only and no brick and mortar establishment(at all) and is stated to be accredited nationally(by DETC) and their tuition fee is affordable, is the program recommended to be taken. I have started to believe its easier to find a needle out from a haystack than finding the right affordable university among the dime a dozen ones that mushroom out from time to time including the existing ones.
Re: What are actions taken against mills? Weren't you looking for a doctoral program? None of those are DETC accredited. Generally speaking, institutions accredited by DETC and the other national accreditors aren't mills, but depending on what one wants to do they may not be accepted, or if so they may not be preferred. They can be less expensive, though. Pay your money, take your choice. -=Steve=-
Degree Mills Yes. A doctoral program in English literature. But I am in no hurry as 1) It costs a fortune from a US based university and therefore I need to save for that purpose and 2) I am only wanting to do the program for personal satisfaction and no monetary interests. It would take about 6 years to complete anyways and I'd be old by then to say "What the heck!"
Re: Degree Mills Union Institue www.tui.edu offers a PhD in English via distance learning, though they do have 35 days residency requirements throughout the course of your degree program. If you can give up your simmers, Indiana University Pennsylvania www.iup.edu offers a four-summer PhD in English.
