Harrison Middleton University, formerly known as the College for the Humanities and Sciences www.chumsci.edu , is a good DETC-accredited DL Great Books-based school offering the MA in Humanities, among other fields.

Thanks Tedmeister. That looks like a very interesting school. I was looking at the Masters of Education at Aspen. I don't even know if they would accept me into that program, as I have no teaching experience in the academic world. I would pursue this degree merely to obtain another credential. I don't think I want to pursue an MBA as I am skittish of Accounting, Econ and Finance at the Masters level.

Right now I am contemplating two things. I will receive my B.S. in Mgmt from CCU in about two months or so. I may enroll in the Masters program at Aspen, or just slow down and go back and finish up my B.S. in liberal studies from The University of Iowa. If I finish up my B.S. at UOI, I can at least pay for classes one at a time. Ah! Decisions, decisions.

I have been rushing to make a decision since Aspen has that $4,200.00 deal for a Masters, but you have to sign up by 12/31/06. It's a great deal! I just don't know if I want to rush into it. And yes, I am well aware of the NA RA issues.

Sorry to go on and on. Take care broheim!

You might also want to look at Fort Hays. I know you specified NA, FHSU is RA, but they offer a very affordable Liberal Srudies gradaute degree.

If you are interested in a Masters in Education, you may want to consider Peru State College. It's RA, but only 162.50 per credit hour. I believe they will also consider NA degrees as a prerequisite for enrollment in their programs.

You also mentioned you might want to finish a BA in Liberal Arts. Peru offers that online as well!

Thanks Pug and Tcord! I am not really interested in the Masters of Education, but was considering it because Aspen has one for $4,200.00. I do not want to do Business (MBA) at the grad level.

I will think about Fort Hayes, I would have to see if they would accept me since my B.S. will be NA. Of course I have a an RA A.A., and RA classes from the University of Iowa, UCLA, etc.

    Take care,

    Abner :)

Then, of course, there are the original NA liberal arts master's programs ... the now DETC/NCA (NA/RA) AMU www.apus.edu .

Fort Hays does not accept NA credits. I was going to enroll there until I found that out.

    Hey Tedmeister!

I have been toying with the idea of the Excelsior Masters of Liberal Studies. I need to email them for more info. For $200.00 they will assess NA credit. Of course, not all of my credit is NA, I also have a large potion of RA credits.

    Take care buddy!

FWIW - Peru also offers an MS in Organizational Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and Economic Development. I believe they will accept NA credits but it's best to check with them to make sure.

Reading through the admissions criteria, it looks like APUS/AMU will admit students with NA undergrad degrees to its graduate programs. Food for thought. Take care, Abner!

Correct, Fort Hays does not accept NA credits in transfer, but I believe they may accept an NA undergrad degree as admission to their grad program. Their website reads: "A graduate student is defined as a student who possesses an undergraduate degree from a four-year institution accredited by the American Council on Education and who has applied for admission to the Graduate School to complete course work for graduate credit. "

(Accredited by ACE???? What is that?) In other places on their website, they state that one must have an accredited BA degree, but it never says RA. Many RA universities that do not accept NA credits at the BA level, will accept an NA degree as sufficent for entry to the grad school. Many will accept you on a probation period for a semester. it's worth a shot for sure.

Thanks Pug! At this point, I am exploring everything, there are so many options! I am even thinking about South African degrees due to their afforadability. I am researching to make sure a SA degree would be considered "recognized" to a US degree after a credible degree evaluation. I work for State Government, the main thing there is that a degree is recognized, and of course an NA degree meets the criteria. I had HR do a check, and my future NA degree passed with flying colors!

    Thanks for you suggestions!

That's actually incorrect, or you talked with someone who did not know. I recently talked with someone in admissions at FHSU and they will accept NA degree/credits for transfer. My wife is currently enrolled in their bachelors in leadership studies.

The question isn't whether a South African degree is considered the equivalent of a regionally accredited U.S. one, as it is. The question is whether SAQA, the South African Qualifications Authority would consider a nationally accredited degree to be the equivalent of a South African degree. They might not -- you should ask them.

    Hi Steve:

I am not really concerned with the SA degree being equivalent to a RA US degree (I know what you are trying to say though). Most of the foreign degree evaluations do not state RA or NA, merely recognized status. I am merely looking into the future for employment purposes mainly in State government and the "Recognition" of a SA degree.

However, somebody pointed me to this link, very interesting. Apparently, UNISA, for example is DETC accredited.

BTW, are you saying a degree from UNISA is considered RA here in the US?

Yes, although that's a curiosity unrelated to its equivalence to a U.S. university, and I'm not even sure it means they'd accept a U.S. nationally accredited degree as a prerequisite.

Yes, or rather it's considered the equivalent of regionally accredited. There are Unisa degree holders who teach in American universities, for example.

That's very interesting because I talked to the Director of Admissions about a year ago and was told they do not accept NA credit toward their BA programs unless the credit was ACE evaluated (which made sense to me because FHSU is listed on ACE's website as a participating school), but they would consider an NA undergard degree for entry to their grad programs.

Did she transfer in NA credits? From what school?

I spoke to four different people there after I received my Ashworth degree. I really wanted to get into their program but they said they only accept credits from RA schools. This was about a year ago. Maybe they have changed their policies but when I called them that is what I was told.
