    Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you know about my new book & web site along with Co-Author Jim Mirabella. We wrote a book called Make Money Teaching Online to be out in February by John WIley & Sons. It's all about how to get started teaching online, how to grow your base, how to maximize your return and how to gain momentum quickly.

We have a web site that will provide more info, give you links to the book, and allow you to exchange hiring schools and ideas with colleagues, as well as ask both Jim and I for advice. Please check it out! www.teachonlinebook.com

I thought this message board didn't allow SPAM?

    Definition of spam

How could that be considered spam? It's a link to a web site that has great resources for at least half the people who have posted to the forum! If you want to teach online, it's a great resource. If you don't, you can simply ignore the post. We have to do that in these forums anyway.. ignore what isn't applicable to us or what we can't help with, and comment on what we CAN help with. :)

Yes dwright_97. Please take your spam elsewhere. It is unwelcomed and violates degreeinfo's terms of service.

There are plenty of websites online that discuss employment in higher education. Degreeinfo is one of them. All a member has to do is ask.

    --------------------------------------------------

"You further agree not to post advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, solicitations, or posts made for the primary purpose of promoting any particular program for commercial or individual gain."

    http://www.degreeinfo.com/terms_policies.html

The terms of policies are located on the home page. You agreed to them when you signed up.

    Have a good day,

    Re: Definition of spam

It is considered SPAM because, although the subject matter is relevant to some members of this board, you are quite blatantly using this board in an attempt to sell something to its members. In this case, it is a book.

If somebody wants to quote your book while answering a question on the topic at hand, that is their business, but you should find another way of selling your product other than clogging our (until now) SPAM-free message board with unwanted solicitations.

    Does that answer your question?

    Re: Re: Definition of spam

It wasn't a question really, more of a rhetorical one, but I do see your point. I guess what you'd like is for people to find more creative ways to tell someone about their product instead of just being up front and honest. :) Either way, your point is considered...

You are ( still ) promoting your commercial product against the terms of policies of degreeinfo.com . I recommend you contact the forum administrators to verify if advertising for personal or corporate financial gain is allowed.

Your response is similar to posts submitted by people who sell and promote fake degrees. They are also "honest and up front." For example, " Yea.. but its legal "

Interesting, where is the book available? I have few faculty members that have asked me for a book like this

If you want to advertise your product, buy some advertising from the people who run this board. I'm sure they would appreciate the business. However, your posts are commercial in nature, and therefore against the message board's terms of service.

Now, if you'd like to give away some of the the information and advice contained in your book here for FREE (gasp!), I'm sure the members of the board would enjoy it, and it's the same compensation the rest of the senior members of this board receive.

Someone here can correct me if I'm wrong, but Dr. John Bear also had a book or two to sell, and I don't recall him ever blatantly shilling them while he posted to this message board. He freely and willingly gave his advice, and if somebody wanted to purchase one of his books (others mentioned them much more frequently than he did) they were free to do so...and not as the result of an ad placed on the message board.

    Exactly so.

DWright, what you call "up front and honest" many people here find crass. We're not just a market awaiting something to buy, we're a community. You might get a better response if you were to start by participating meaningfully -- i.e., joining the community -- and let people come to respect you and want to find out more about what you have to offer rather than just charge in a like a bull in a china shop.

Thanks, I already sent an email inquring about advertising. :) Actualy I am posting in other threads just trying to help people, just didn't see it as a big issue to let people know about the book. I apologize if I offended any of you.

As far as free information, I've been working on that already actually. We'll be pushing lots of free tips and free advice and we're both even doing free CV evals "as we speak". :)

Re: Re: Our new book & web site

Right now it is on pre-order through Amazon. If you go to our site you'll see the link for it. It wont be released until the end of January but we're looking forward to it. We're posting free advice and CV reviews on our own web site now and we're both joining boards to help people find jobs and to answer questions (such as this one and others). :) If you would like, send me an email and when it's out I'll send you a free copy to review.
