    Hi,

I will finish my Business Admin. degree in December.
I am looking at where to do my MBA.
I called and talked to the people at NCU.
Their approach is not tests, but rather a writing intensive school. Something I'm not accustomed to doing.
Can someone comment on this style of teaching?
I'm looking for a 100% online school at no more than $375 per semester credit. (RA only)
    Thanks,

    Monte

I think NCU's MBA program is great as well. I like the fact that they have so many concentrations and there price was right. Since I am a military learner its free except for books of course.

As far as the writing and writing and writing and writing goes...... It kind of sucks but you learn much more, at least in my opinion. With tests you don't really have to "learn" the material. This is just my opinion of course. I think the best way to prove you have learned information is by taking it in, processing it, and then applying it in school projects or term papers. You may know that the four P's of marketing are product, price, place, and promotion. But can you explain in detail on a test the concept of marketing and how those terms relate? Just an example.

Don't get me wrong, I think tests are valuable tools in assessing one's knowledge of a particular subject but I believe explaining it in a paper takes more thought and time. My students love the fact that the Air Force's favorite way of determining whether or not they understand the material is by multiple choice questions. Tell them they have an essay due and they just cringe.

Again, NCU's program is great and the writing isn't that bad. Just my two cents.

I would suggest University of North Alabama. They are about $320/hr and a state school.
They are RA and ACBSP accredited.
Their course assessment is mainly on Exams.

    Personally, I like NCU.

However, have a look at AMU's MBA programme:

    Hi Monte,
I work for NCU and like them a lot. It isn't test-based; you do take courses, comps, dissertation etc. I'd recommend them anytime. Very good quality IMO.

    Hi dwright_97,

What's the prospect of becoming a full-time professor with PhD or DBA from NCU?

Many previously discussed threads on this subject, and they may benefit you. Try the search function using "MBA", "Low Cost MBA", NCU", etc. and you'll find a lot of useful info and school recommendations. Good luck!

Since you are a CPA, I would say that it is high only because now you have 3 positions waiting for every PhD graduating in accounting. For saturated fields like MIS, I would say it is lower than average since you might have 2 or 3 graduates for every position open.

There are a lot of other factors.. so I can't quote the prospect, but I can tell you they are a very active school and they have great opportunity. I love working there.

If by "full-time" you mean tenured, and you are looking to be tenured at a B&M university (not an online school), then I would say the chances are slim to none.

However, since you are a CPA and have bachelor's and master's degrees from two reputable schools, it would sure raise your chances.

Since you are a graduate from two reputable B&M schools I would suggest finding a limited residency doctoral program from a B&M school that will allow you to do research in your field. This way you can cap off your two reputable degrees with a third reputable degree.

    Reputable Schools

    Hi Scott Henley,

You were the second person on this site who referred to San Francisco State University as a reputable school. Please don't get me wrong. I am actually quite glad to hear this from others.

Few weeks ago, I was having a chat with a friend of mine as to where our kids should go to school when they are at that age. Ivy League and other similar ranking schools came into the discussion. But when I mentioned Cal State, he gave me this look as if I shouldn't even be talking about it.

May be in this case might not be so hard. At my University, we are hiring professors with Chinese PhDs and foreign accounting designations due to the shortage of accounting professors.

    Hi RFValve,

Which university do you work for?

SFSU is an established B&M school with a solid reputation for teaching and research.

US News College ranking placed it in the top-tier for western master's universities. I would think that this is quite respectable considering that NCU doesn't place on any ranking that I'm aware of.

    Hi,

I have chosen the remain anonymous on this forum as I have seen many times people using personal information for good but also bad purposes.

Unfortunately I cannot tell where I work, but I can tell you that accounting jobs are 3 to 1 compared to any other business field

Hey he wants to be anonymous...thats ok.

But if I go for my Ph.D as an accountant will you at least forward my name to your dean?

Sorry for the delay in responding.

It's going very well. I'm now in the online format (moodle) enrolled in Strategic Marketing. The course is interesting and I really like my instructor.

    Thank you for asking.

    Regards.
