    DOCNET

    https://ca.dtic.mil/doctrine/default.htm

American Public University System (APUS) will grant one college credit hour for successful completion of each DOCNET course. The credit will be provided through one of two APUS member institutions: American Public University (APU) or American Military University (AMU). In order to receive undergraduate college credit, you must complete a DOCNET course, then successfully pass the examination at the end of the course.

I have begun taking the courses. Easy, but informative courses. A lot like taking FEMA courses. I did not get a reply from DOCNET when I tried to sign up until I used a military email address.

I have contacted AMU and they says they are going to send me more information on the subject.

Has anyone here used the free DOCNET courses to obtain credit with the American Public University System or elsewhere?

I had PM'd you yesterday with a question but you answered on this post regarding the response back from DOCNET. I inquired but the email bounced back. I resent with a .mil today and hope to hear something in the next day or two.

Does it appear that the testing process is similar to FEMA or are they proctored? Are they WebCT type delivery?

The courses at DOCNET have a online multimedia presentation to watch, some readings to read in pdf format and a final exam. The exam is online, unproctered, and usually about 25 multiple choice questions. If you fail the exam you can try again.

You print your own certificate upon completion. The certificate is important to keep as DOCNET does not keep a record of the courses you pass, so that means no transcript is available.

The Joint Military Operations Historical Collection (JMOHC) course is the one course at DOCNET that is available to the public and requires no password to access. One can begin it at any time.

Thanks for the info. I'll wait to hear back from them and take the historical one in the meantime.

I sent an email to them (through the contact email address) to see what I would need to do to get a user id and password.

dualrated2, post when you get a reply.

I wonder if there would be any of the big 3 that would take the credits.

So you have to be in the military to use docnet?

That would be my guess, either military or civil service (and possibly contractor). I tried it earlier from work (AF), and you get unencumbered access from a .mil address, and need to access via password (likely set up from a .mil address) through any other channels. I'd be curious to see (and happy) if they would let like minded civilians access the site.

Heck, my email to them from their contact button (popup email) bounced back.

    Michael:

I see where you now show 19 DOCNET courses completed in your signature line. 19 in 5 days or had you been doing them for some time?

Any word back from AMU or APUS on the credit?

As of today I have been doing DOCNET courses for three weeks. I have not heard anything more from AMU or APUS.

    Wow! What a find!

Thanks Michael! Always on the lookout for inexpensive college credit and this and FEMA is hard to beat!

APUS e-mailed me that you must be enrolled in one of their programs to get credit for DOCNET courses-you can't just do a TCE (transcript credit eval) and get credit like a credit bank and use them elsewhere. So I'm not sure of their utility outside of pursuing a degree at AMU or APU. Of course if you'r going there it's a big plus.

Any more information about how these courses are applied at AMU/APUS?

It would be interesting to see what kind of credit one would receive.
