I visited the University of Phoenix's website and saw where they do offer doctorate degrees by distance education. I wasn't very clear on whether or not the doctorate degree can be earned wholly online (without any residential insitututes or any visits to campus). Can anyone clarify this for me?

    Thanks

Yes, Doctoral degrees can be earned totally online.
Here are links to a few other universities that offer online Doctoral programs.
    NorthCentral University -------------- www.ncu.edu
    Touro University International --- www.tourou.edu
    Cappella University ------------- www.capella.edu

University of Phoenix does require short residencies for the doctoral programs. I know a few graduates from the programs, but your best bet is to call the 800 number and talk to an enrollment advisor regarding the specifics.

    LadyExecutive,

Good question with 2 answer that did not insult, attack, berate, belittle, criticize, or violate UOP. Gee....either everyone is asleep or they aren't home from the party yet. Trust me....when the name UOP is included in the subject line you can count on the sharks circling. Bottom line - always, always, do your homework and never, ever trust this forum as the single source for making your distance education decisions.

Come on, do you really have to say this every single time a thread comes up for Phoenix or schools like it? Some people here don't have much respect for them, true, but there are also a number of people here who have attended such schools. NCU advocates seem to have a particularly strong presence here.

Well, on that we can certainly agree.

I understand what you're saying, and yes, I do remember the negativity you describe. However, wouldn't you agree that in the last few months that's changed quite a bit? I think a while back when several Senior Members left that most of the hostility you mention left with them. In fact, if anything, I'd say the board is pretty friendly to proprietary schools these days, especially NCU.

    Steve,
It became more friendly about the time those of us who were bored and tired of the same old dribble began articulating the truth about this forum. Notice this though......if you start a thread about UOP (or another) and the defenders of the same do not jump in early it is typically a long and drawn out thread in which the general thesis is criticism of UOP (or the others). Coincidence? Maybe but I doubt it.

Why did I want to get a degree from UoP?

My goals & objectives were: (1) get into graduate school; (2) have all my credits transfer including CLEP and graduate in least amount of time (3) spend no time away from home; (4) study independently; and, (4) meet learning objectives of each course.

All of the above G&O were met at UoP: I graduated with a BSBIS degree and was accepted into California State grad school, I was also accepted into an ABA approved law school (go figure)...

So, if your G&O are similar to mine, UoP is a good ticket. I stand by that.

    ...nuff said...

    Susanna,
Please, please don't confuse these boneheads with the facts <wink/grin>.

Yes, a lot of talent left the board but some of the immaturity left as well. We have to work a little harder now, but the board is more collegial and still intolerant of fraudulent schools. See, having individuals flying off the handle and acting like a big babies wasn't very helpful, as evidenced by the behavior not being missed.
