I am getting ready to open a TESC Crediit bank and need help with exactly how it works. I know TESC will "bank" credit earned at RA schools, FEMS/EMI, ACE evaluated courses, etc. Once I open the account, do I simply need have official transcripts send to TESC with each class I pass, or do I need to notify TESC each time something is being sent?

As you earn credits have the transcript(s) mailed to Thomas Edison State College. It would probably be cheaper to request a transcript after completing a block of courses rather than upon completion of each course if taking several from one source. But you already knew that, right? ;-)

Yes, thanks! :) But I don't have to notify TESC that the trascripts are on the way?

Do they take nationally accredited courses for credit at all? Will they even evaluate them?

My understanding is that TESC will not consider NA courses for banking unless that have been evaluated by ACE. That's one reason I really like Penn Foster...they are super inexpensive and most the the courses in their business degree programs have been ACE evaluated. I believe something like 60 of the 66 hours in their Management degree is ACE.

    You can check here: https://www.acenet.edu/nationalguide/

Or you can call the school/training organization in question and ask them.

So is anyone actually using the TESC Credit Bank that can tell me if I have to notify TESC each time transcripts are sent for banking? Or is it sufficient to simply send the transcripts?

When I did it for my FEMA credits, I filled out the forms saying that I had credits coming in from FEMA. But it was from two sources: NETC virtual campus and EMI coursework. They are recorded on seperate transcripts. So The EMI ones arrived first and those were put on the transcripts, but for some reason the NETC ones didn't show up. I called the NETC and they said they sent them and so I called TESC and they said that they had them, but I would need to send them a written letter saying I wanted them added. I asked if I had to do this every time and for additional credit and was told "yes". So I wrote the letter and those credits were added.

Now, a month or so later, I took some dantes exams and put TESC as the place I wanted the results sent to and they were added and the transcript updated without me asking.

I think the rule of thumb, after you open the account, would be to drop them a letter saying: "Please add to my transcripts credit from these institutions:
    NETC
    EMI
    DANTES (DSST)
    CLEP
    etc

    Good luck

I always send a detailed letter as TESC, and Excelsior also, get it wrong about 50% of the time and do not list the courses correctly. I had over 100 hours of ACE evaluated military courses and I would have to print out the ACE evaluation showing credit and send it or I would get a letter back saying the course was not ACE evaluated for credit. They really hated me when I even went so far as to begin sending them links to the ACE military guide online showing that a certain course was worth credit. If I had not sent detailed letters and not given up I would probably have over 60 less hours on my transcript from both TESC and Excelsior.

It would not hurt to let TESC know the transcript(s) are being forwarded though it is not a requirement.

TESC only accepts NA credits from schools which are currently RA candidates. Otherwise, you might be able to use PLA (prior learning assessment) to convert those NA credits into a form acceptable by TESC. But, if the NA course has been ACE evaluated then TESC will accept those credits solely on the basis of ACE evaluation.

Thanks everyone. How do you think I should send them ACE evaluated work, on an ACE transcript? Or from the institution with a letter from me explaining that the courses have been ACE evaluated?

The ACE transcript is probably a sure bet, but you can send them transcripts and see if they will accept them. The accept FEMA transcripts outright. Not sure about other ACE credit.
It is best to call and ask TESC and see what they say.
