Hi. I read on here about eh Rutgers Skill Certs and thought I would give them a try to bolster my resume. I've had CCNA, A+, and so forth, but that was a while ago. So some of the test quesions didn't sound familiar and I would like to know if anyone has worked up a study prep for the tests. Thanks.

Yes, Rutgers has. They offer DL courses through the same web site which offers the tests. Each of the courses is $49 (That's how they get ya!) Of course, there are other places online where you could go for free and brush up on the information, but there is no guarantee it would cover the same material on the test.

I recently earned a Project Management Job Skill Certification via the Rutgers Skill Center. It's an awesome resume builder and everything is fine except I'm a little concerned about some of the wording on the transcript.

    Here's what I'm talking about :

"XXXXX XXXX has successfully completed the Skill Certification tests required to earn a Job Skill Certification for Project Manager Job Skill Certification. This Job Skill Certification proves that XXXXX XXXX has demonstrated a foundation of key Skills required for successful performance in the Project Manager Job Skill Certification Job."

To me, that's a horrific description that might cast a doubt on the certification's credibility. The person who wrote it must get a commission based on how many times he writes "Job Skill Certification"! I think it would be cleaner and more effective if re-written as follows:

"XXXXX XXXX has completed all tests required to earn a Project Manager Job Skill Certification. This certification confirms that he/she has demonstrated a foundation of key skills required for successful performance in Project Management related duties."

I've already called the contact number (Andrea at 1-877-484-4636) and expressed my concerns. She said she would "pass it on" and promised to give me a follow-up call. If you've done a Rutgers Cert and share my concerns, please give her a call. I'm hoping that several calls will help highlight this as an issue that needs to be addressed.

I'm really not a nit-picker. It's just that I'm about to change careers and want to ensure my credentials answer more questions than they raise. I don't want to have to "explain" a credential to an HR person who is looking at me sideways becuase of a poorly written transcript description.

    Thanks for your help.
